Calm restored after London riots

Published

on

Burned out buildings, some still on fire, bear witness to the violent rioting that took place in the Tottenham area of North overnight.

The trouble started on Saturday night following the fatal shooting by police of local man Mark Duggan on Thursday during an attempt to arrest him.

The Home Secretary, Theresa May, condemned the violence and offered her full support to the police who had to bring in reinforcements from other areas.

@willygrant1971 Teresa May has no idea how real people live, what they think feel or want. All she does is go on the news and pretend she actually knows what she wants/gives a damn about anything other than looking good and keeping her job 🙁

@mrmootheirrev Funny, didn't know we, the "right wingers", aka conservative christians, are able to be atheists + socialists in the same time as in Hitler's political party plus "religion" affiliation, right?
Also funny, how much resemblance btwn the violent riots of the '30s in NAZI Germany and nowadays EU riots, but when I think of the goals of ppl who now CREATE these riots… Hitler would have been damn proud of today's EU and its own socialist ideology.

No such thing in CDA + USA.

@401RoadWarrior This riot has more to do with social issues and lack of effort of police to do outreach and development within this community, doesn't excuse it. Toronto G20 was not a riot; no riot act was read, everyone had the right to protest as long as they were peaceful. TPS did not care and bum rushed Queens Park attacking everyone, illegaly arresting over 1k people. And I would say that any gathering without proper security can turn violent. We've seen that in Vancouver over the cup loss.

    March 21, 2024 at 3:19 pm

@401RoadWarrior You mentioned Toronto G20 first. And whatever the positions of those protesting at the Toronto G20, they have the right to protest peacefully as you and I do.

@kolar 1) This video is all about LONDON, ENGLAND riots, ok? you just hijacked it to the freakin' Toronto, CANADA G20 June 2010 riots 2) About Toronto, what those damn protesters doing there in Toronto at first place, were they pro-democracy, pro-capitalism, pro-canadian prosperity, anti-socialism, anti-anarchy, anti-international terrorism, anti-muslim extremism, etc., etc., etc.? were they? or all pro left wing socialist ideology, nobody is illegal, a world w/o borders, etc.?

i'm not against destroying cars but old buildings??? come on!

  11. @kolar

    March 21, 2024 at 3:19 pm

@401RoadWarrior Yes the black-bloc burnt a car and smashed windows. One day later at Queens Park (a designated peaceful protest location) police stormed it, attacked anyone they could. The ISU is still investigating many cases and TPS are being sued by dozens of people. People at Queens Park had nothing to do with the black-bloc or any kind of violence. A 60 year old paraplegic dragged 100 meters over asphalt? Dorian Barton had his face fractured? Not terrorist or even violent, they're Canadian

forgive me, but im lost……..in the U.K. its ok to shoot at police, but isnt ok for police to shoot the one shooting at them. hmmm. sounds awkward.sounds one sided, sounds hypocritical.sounds like the people of U.K. should grow up, this isnt never never-land.

@kolar Actually Mr anti-cop left-wing canadian MATE. those "idiots" for you are ANARCHIST if not TERRORISTS for me, if I had my own way… straight to GITMO for all of them and then… God help them…

I guess you're a pretty big fan of anti-capitalism anarchist left-wing anti-american movement around the world, right? gotcha!!!

@BNPpatriot He would have near-flayed to death anyone who could connect to this in interrogation, executed by quartering (look it up) those he thought were the leaders then jailed for life, deported or otherwise destroy the lives of everyone else. I'm sure David Cameron can oblige though, he seems to fit the bill. I think it's sad anyone would, especially Westerns would call for Medieval justice on anyone.

  15. @kolar

    March 21, 2024 at 3:19 pm

@401RoadWarrior Actually sunshine the Toronto Police attacked peaceful protesters at Queens Park a day after 5-10 idiots couldn't be taken down by police, who were less then 10 meters away. That to me sounds of either police provocateurs triggering the violence or being too inept to actually being able to arrest a bunch of stupid kids, with over a Billion dollars spent on their budget for the G20. Over 1,000 people illegally arrested in the greatest violation of our civil rights, many injured.

  16. @kolar

    March 21, 2024 at 3:19 pm

    "And reports of looting"

Wait, so you actually saw looting?

    "No but we're reporting it"

"In other news acts of cannibalism are being reported during the London riots"

As a Canadian who never been 2 UK yet, so not much info on what kind of ppl (socially of course) live in that particular area, but over here in Toronto and its surrounding areas, over 5 MILLION ppl in total, cops shoot & kill lots of ppl who violently resist arrest, all canadian cops (city, provincial and federal) are armed with live ammunition, have you ever heard or seen such idiotic riots happening in CDA? Hell no, only last year with G20 in Toronto, but those were left wingers, anarchists…

  19. @ShadesofScorpius

    March 21, 2024 at 3:19 pm

Hm. I know nothing about the Mark Duggin (sp?) shooting but I can tell from this piece that the reporting is far from unbiased. Did they just read out what the police wrote for them?

Targeting Patriarch Kirill risks fuelling EU scepticism, Bulgarian foreign minister warns

Velislava Petrova-Chamova told that the EU’s sanctions against Russia should have a financial impact and not be a symbolic instrument – and that this, among other reasons, is why Sofia championed the removal of the head of Russia’s Orthodox Church from the 21st sanctions package.

China’s economic growth hits slowest pace in more than three years

China’s economy grew 4.3% year on year in the second quarter, its weakest pace since late 2022, as weak domestic demand and a prolonged property downturn outweighed strong exports, increasing pressure on Beijing to provide more economic support.
