A pilots worst nightmare. Helicopters are very difficult to see and the low sun angle would make it even more difficult. RIP to all those lost

The odds of aircraft hitting each other while flying is very small. So Air Safety regulations get invented, funnels them into very narrow corridors and employs thousands of Air Traffic Controllers to reduce the now very high chance of crashes to very small.

Terrifying. I would have thought that perhaps the other aircraft would be coming from the sunlight, but from the comments "low wing and no flight plan" explained quite a bit. The helo crew didn't have a chance.
