Army court finds Israeli medical sergeant guilty of manslaughter

There has been public uproar in Israel and abroad following a verdict of guilty of manslaughter at a military tribunal for a young army medic, Elior Azaria.

In March last year he was called to give medical assistance to a soldier who had been stabbed in Hebron. Azaria shot the attacker dead as he was lying injured in the road, but was filmed doing it by a Palestinian human rights activist. The video went around the world.

Amnesty International says it has documented beatings, humiliations, summary expulsions and racial profiling in Ceuta and the Spanish government has ordered the military to identify any individuals potentially responsible.

Carney welcomes proposal for Canada to become the EUs associate member

President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested that the EU allowing Canada to become an associate member could be a “hostile act” and threatened to respond to the proposed move by imposing more tariffs on the bloc.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, “This alliance is a positive process. That’s my response to the American president. It’s a positive thing. A stronger, more resilient, more sovereign Canada will be a partner, a more effective partner with the United States, and the same would go for the European Union.”
