Trump says Iran could attack US cities, White House clarifies comments
The White House clarified Donald Trump’s comments at a Monday night rally, explaining that the president was not insinuating that he wanted Iran to attack US cities but instead wants to prevent Tehran from having that capability.
Trump was discussing the Iran war and the resulting high gas prices Monday night when he mentioned the possibility of an Iranian attack on US soil. “It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,” he said of the war and its economic fallout. “They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay.”

The only way Syria can avoid “military strikes”:http://www.euronews.com/2013/09/06/obama-clear-that-military-strikes-against-syria-necessary/ is to handover its chemical weapons, says the US.
Secretary of State John Kerry delivered the ultimatum during a “visit to London”:http://www.euronews.com/2013/09/09/congress-gets-set-to-debate-obama-s-call-to-punish-syria/ as he looks to “Europe to build support”:http://www.euronews.com/2013/09/08/us-secretary-of-state-sets-out-stall-on-syria-in-paris/ for intervention.
Kerry, asked what Bashar al-Assad’s regime could do to prevent military action, said: “Sure, he could turn over every single bit of his chemical
weapons to the international community in the next week – turn
it over, all of it without delay and allow the full and total
accounting (of it) but he isn’t about to do it and it can’t be
done.”
Kerry met with his British counterpart William Hague, who backed the US, despite his government losing a “parliamentary vote on intervening in Syria”:http://www.euronews.com/2013/08/30/syria-crisis-uk-says-no-to-military-strikes/.
He said: “The United Kingdom will continue to work closely with the United States taking a highly-active role and addressing the Syria crisis and working with our closest ally over the coming weeks and months.”
Hague’s comments come as Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem met with his Russian opposite number, Sergei Lavrov.
Lavrov said: “We and our Syrian partners, despite the seriousness of the situation, believe that a political solution is still possible. The minister said Syria was willing to go to the Geneva conference and to find, without condition, an agreement with the opposition.”
It comes as al Qaeda-linked militants “took control of strategic Syrian town Maaloula”:http://www.euronews.com/2013/09/09/syria-al-qaeda-linked-fighters-take-strategic-town-of-maaloula/.
