Hamas elects Yahya Sinwar as Gaza leader
The Palestinian group Hamas has elected a commander of its armed wing as overall leader in Gaza.
Regarded as a hardliner, Yahya Sinwar rejects any reconciliation with Israel. The 55-year-old was jailed for murder in Israel but freed after 22-years behind bars as part of a prisoner swap deal in 2011 for the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Severe storms and tornadoes in Central Tennessee over the weekend resulted in the deaths of six people, including a toddler, and caused injuries to dozens, while damaging buildings, overturning vehicles, and leading to widespread power outages. Three fatalities occurred in Montgomery County, northwest of Nashville, and three in a neighborhood north of downtown Nashville. In the Madison neighborhood of Nashville, the community mourned the loss of Floridema Gabriel Perez and her two-year-old son, Anthony Elmer Mendez. Marco Tulio Gabriel Pérez, Floridema’s brother, traveled from Atlanta after the tragic incident, which also left two other children in the family injured. Residents, including Greg Chance, recounted the terrifying moments during the tornado, with Chance surviving in his kitchen safe spot. He mourned the loss of his coworker, Joseph Dalton, who died in the storm, leaving behind a son. The community grappled with the aftermath, cleaning up and dealing with the emotional impact of the disaster.

A smoking ban in Beijing comes into force today in the Chinese capital’s, restaurants, offices and on public transport .
Health activists have pushed for years for stronger restrictions in a country which is the world’s largest tobacco consumer.
Under the new rules smokers will be fined and also named and shamed on a government website.

This video is so biased and misleading. It calls him "regarding as a hardlinder" when the first thing Sinwar did was to amend the Hamas charter to call for a two state solution. It also says he was jailed for murder when he has never been charged for that.
