The platforms do not know the products they are promoting. Many platforms are too big and offer illegal, dangerous or counterfeit goods. In the end, these platforms advertise products that these platforms are not familiar with. The size in itself and the lack of controls in relation to the safety of the products pose an immediate danger to consumers, as many products do not comply with the laws in the countries in which the products are sold. Therefore, the law has to be Changed in such a way that the platforms can be held responsible for consequential damage and not the many small dealers or even the end customer. Google: A man bought something from W he didn't know was illegal – now he's in Jail. Each country has different prices for products based on their economics. Unfortunately, we see a price-destroying strategy with these platforms combined with illegal goods. This gave the platforms illegal market advantages.

Lol. And people wonder why the EU is so far behind in tech. Git gud scrubs.

Also, this is a poorly done video. The primary reason the FTC hasn't intervened is because the tech giants are what's known as "consumer selected monopolies"; meaning they're not monopolies because of anti-competitive practices, they're monopolies because consumers decided collectively they were the best. Google is the perfect example – other search engines like Bing exist. You could use Bing if you wanted to. But you don't. You use Google.

Breaking up a consumer selected monopoly hurts consumers first and foremost, because you're forcing them to use a sub-optimal service. People shop on Amazon because Amazon is amazing, not because it's the only option.

There's no difference between big corporations and American government anymore. Hopefully this doesnt happen to EU

Big tech should be broken up into many companies like the Bell system in the 80’s.. Everyone knows big business is corrupt but I don’t think people realize how bad it really is. Obama blocked AT&T from buying T mobile and said Sprint would not be allowed to merge. Then t mobile who is owned buy a German company buys sprint a japanese company. Didn’t we fight a world war against both of those countries. Liberals are traitors so is Zuckerberg,Benzos, Cook and all the rest of them

  9. @Shubham-ou1ge

Nothing is going to happen, Big tech will eat everything, Government is puppet of these elites

Most worrying is that these monopolies are American, and we all know how US companies will do anything to screw anybody as much as possible…

  11. @darkknightmage

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

This feels good natured but ultimately will be inconsequential in the grand scheme of these companies. If there is one thing giant companies like this are good at, its finding loopholes and a country or organization can not stop every loophole from happening no matter how much time they spend. There is always a lawyer out there who can find a loophole. Especially with places like Ireland which has an interesting relationship with apple in terms of taxes. Thus to reiterate i feel like this will end up being watered down by the final bill and lead to genuflecting by the companies. Even the penalties are pretty pathetic some of them barely account for a percentage of these companies revenues

The big tech companies have too much power! These monopoly laws to protect the consumer are needed!

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

And so it the rest of the world. I expect that their Censorship and data sharing policies will destroy them. Too late, there is no going back. You have failed the public. Be ready to see your shares drop, be ready to see user delete their account and be ready for class action suits, loss of revenue and the possibility to separate your big companies into smaller ones and have your own companies bought by other companies who better serve their clients. Big Tech companies as we see them today are an obviously thing of the past.
Get ready to get autodestroyed by your own failed and unfair policies. We the public have the infinitesimal power to bring u down. And mind you, the public is unforgiving.

  19. @johnfisher697

These company's make massive profits from there operations, which are then diverted to tax havens and neither the US or EU have access to this money, so the profits cannot be taxed and distributed Fairley back to the people who created this wealth. Most are domiciled in the US and they only receive a modest amount back when taxed. this creates a massive monopoly for these company and kills any thought of competition. They have a individual wealth more then many small nations GDP.
They have a tremendous impact and I would consider them a perfect example of American "Soft Power" and can be used to "Groom" the established and emerging nations of the world.
Britain's "Watchdog" will be a toothless attempt at parity with the EU which it has just left, and must absolutely petrify them and will be used (in all probability) as a bargaining tool for a trade deal with the US.
The only way to compete with them is to set up a rival enterprise in each Power block, I can see this happening in the EU (as in China) another nail in Bretton Woods and Americas coffin.
Globalisation will not happen and in all likelihood the future power blocks will be Inter-Continental based dominated by each Continents most powerful Country.

  20. @cristitanase6130

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

The US failed to keep them in line and now we see the results. They have so much power that they bend the election result in their favor.

Perfect strategy from EU to protect us, the users, and the ideas and innovations from small companies. Bravo!

What it makes so difficult to understand for some politicians, big companies management, billionaires and gang heads, that taken care and making easy the life of ordinary people in every decision they take, it is what will make them thrive in any contest, in anywhere they go, in whatever time they live?

Regulating the big data is a good thing. But imagine one of the FANG companies is an European company, I suspect EU would have been this aggressive

  27. @___David__

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

If the EU serves for anything good, let it be to crush Big Tech.
I'm sick of being unable to uninstall Google's apps from my phone just because it uses Android, a pseudo- open source system that Google owns and controls.

  28. @cakeisyummy5755

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

Down with the big tech! Also the max amount of money you can fine a company should be infinity.

  29. @andrachirnicinii4846

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

We all like and use these apps/services but they have truly taken over their markets and where there isn't competition, there can't be significant improvement because it gives people no choice.

What these giants decide is what happens and that's the end of it.

Regardless of people wanting to maybe be more eco friendly with packaging or have more protection of their personal data or use a platform which takes down immediately abuse of animals (TikTok is horrible at this) or other horrible content, majority of people wouldn't move away from the big companies because there aren't many other options (they made sure of that).

    What about the Tax evasion?

  31. @dkmphotography_co_uk

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

Interesting analysis of what the EU's plans are to regulate the Tech giants such as Google, Apple, Facebook & Amazon etc.
There's no denying that we ALL benefit from some form of regulations being put in place on these Tech Corporations to limit their power some how or promote a more fair trading environment for competitors against the monopoly that these giants obtain.

Plenty of businesses & individuals felt 'inconvenienced' by GDPR, but we have ALL benefitted from it, no matter even if you live outside the EU.
In fact, this proves the benefit of the EU as good luck getting individual countries to stand up to corporations with individual law suits… Cost a fortune & take forever.
When it's 28 (now 27) member states acting in unison as The Largest Trading Block, then these companies have to pay attention.

I say all of this as a strong user of Google, Amazon & Facebook etc.
You can appreciate their services whilst being wary of their unrestrained power over us as individuals & monopoly against rivals.

  32. @geoffreydesena587

    March 2, 2024 at 6:54 am

While I understand arguments that giving a government this much power over private enterprise can be dangerous, I don't see how having any private business that is not beholden to the democratic electorate and more powerful than the national government can make for a better society. I would be happy if all the tech giants were broken up better than the oil giants of last century (who have more or less coalesced into giants again).

Be careful what you wish for. Every one of the U.S. states you listed is traditionally "pro-business Republican", and every one of them (except Georgia, barely) just voted for Trump. That tells me that there is a lot more politics than protection coming from any lawsuits they have filed.
