Have you had your daily dose of #GoodNews? ๐
โ๏ธโ๏ธ Gender equality came a little closer to reality this month, with a European Union agreement to apply gender quotas in the boardroom.
๐ช๐บ Last year, EU data showed women occupied 30.6 per cent of boardroom positions across the bloc.
It varied widely from country to country, with Cyprus having only 8.5 per cent of women in the boardroom, and France more than 45 per cent.
๐ซ๐ท France is so far the only EU state to go over this new threshold.

The problem is sex discrimination laws make it illegal to discriminate against men just as much as it is illegal to discriminate against women.
EU laws are not like the US where positive discrimination is legal but also encouraged.
So when companies recruit their board members it would be illegal for the company to activity search for a woman.

How is it the good news? You guys have put a question mark on those women's abilities who reached higher position by themselves. This will be marked as big mistake in history.
@NH5.

Pathetic… you are actually forcing the companies to hire women even though they might not be competent on their role. This nothing but oppressing males. I can see decline in the west. I recommend everyone to join the east

This is wrong! It must be totally dependent on efficiency and intelligence and not stupidity of gender equality. If only women are more then all seats must be for women but if all men are more qualified then all seats must be for men. Seats must be given to more qualified person.

Just how many minority groups is the EU going to force companies to give board positions to? Immigrants, religious minorities, LGBTQ, left-handers? Where will this social engineering legislation stop?

There are reasons why women are underrepresented at boardroom level – the biggest one is motherhood.
