Capitalism as we know it is over, so what comes next? | My Wildest Prediction with Varoufakis

Published

on

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for retailers. With Christmas around the corner, shopping soars: groceries and drinks for dinners, toys, electronics for gifts, and clothes for events. It seems wild not to believe that capitalism is in perfect health… However, former Greek Minister of Economics Yanis Varoufakis not only believes it’s in decline but thinks it’s already dead. Who killed it? Well, according to him, Amazon and Alibaba, among others…

Can I put it this way
Walking in a newyork city waking Anology
Is it like waking with a VR gogole and waking in the city as if I am hijacked by this technology gadget it knows me and guide me in a nice way blind me and it decide on behalf of me

He just won’t stop making noise. If he took one college level journalism class on interviewing people he’d be quiet instead of saying mmmhmm and ok, and then arguing he’s intelligent about technology. Listen instead of waiting to say something just unprofessional, too bad real journalist don’t want to spread the truth.

Besides his quavering voice, his lack of depth, Tom is like an annoying kid! Not smart! Not good enough to be an interviewer of a man of this caliber!

oh my goodness, what a tool the interviewer is. Regurgitating random buzz/key words (AI, blockchain, etc…) to Yanis who always turned his dull questions into reasonable answers.
Kudos to Varoufakis (and not Varouflakis as the interviewer called him twice) for keeping his composure. The things he does to diffuse knowledge, uh

the host is so annoying. not because of his opinions, but because of his manner of conduct. "yeah, yeah, ahahahahahah, yeah yeah ahahahahahaah", just shut up while your guest is talking. Don't interrupt all the time even with "yeah ahhaah". makes this wonderful interview very difficult to listen

He comes out as a staunch believer in technology ("addicted to Apps"), the pharmaceutical mafia, the CO2 climate-hoax and the new church, labeling itself "science".
I used to adore Varoufakis as an independent mind. After this video i have to withhold vomit and with determination abandon my support for this mediocre system-puppet.

Your data should be yours and you should get paid for it. Currently, you don't own anything about yourself online. So it is like Yanis says, only worse….. Governments no longer need to inform you (through a warrant) to access your data. This could be anything. Photos of your family, your opinions, your views, pretty much anything is subject to a browsing snoop keeping tabs on you because you said something online that they find distasteful…… That is the worse part.

  30. @edwarding4355

    February 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm

I think it maybe be hard to understand V. There is financial profit and economic profit and economic rent. So financial profits are economic profits and economic rents. The efforts and energy invested by these new companies is to capture economic rent not create economic profits. It is the financialization of the economy. The proportion of resources used to produce real life enhancing goods and services to people is dropping in the proportion of resources used to fish for economic rents.

I see all the previous commentors are as aghast at the interviewer's lack of depth as I am. I find this reassuring. Yanis doesn't have a reputation of being an especially unwieldy guest. This has got to be one of the most one-sided amateurish interviews of him ever.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

🔄 Janis Varoufakis argues that capitalism has already ended, replaced by a form of technologically advanced feudalism.
💻 Traditional markets are being replaced by platforms like Amazon, which accumulate wealth through rent rather than profit.
🛍️ Cloud capital, a new form of capital, emerged about 10 years ago and resides in digital assets like Alexa or Google Assistant.
📊 Cloud capital leverages data to modify behavior and extract rents, bypassing traditional market mechanisms.
💰 The concentration of income in the hands of cloud lords, those who control cloud capital, is exacerbating global inequality.
🌐 Companies like Amazon and Alibaba manipulate algorithms to control buyer-seller interactions, resembling a Soviet-style economic system.
🤖 Varoufakis contends that technological solutions alone cannot address societal problems; political and social interventions are necessary.
📉 Despite claims of democratization, Varoufakis argues that technology has intensified wealth concentration, with a few entities like BlackRock owning a vast majority of companies
💼 Capitalism's current form provides opportunities but leads to dependence, akin to feudalism.
📡 Technology enables widespread broadcasting and commerce, but concentration of power undermines freedom.
🤖 Concerns about algorithmic persuasion and ownership of algorithms controlling billions.
💰 Economic energy increasingly siphoned off as rents, leading to inflation and discontent.
🌍 AI has potential in education but won't solve systemic issues of concentrated power.
🔍 Need to discern beneficial uses of technology while being vigilant against its misuse.
🌱 Climate crisis exacerbates consumerism driven by algorithms, necessitating systemic change.
🛠️ Suggestions include ending free services, implementing micro-payment systems, and restructuring corporate ownership for equality and accountability.

    February 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm

    February 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm

i have never seen such an in ill disciplined interviewer. when is speaking whole sentences alongside the guest…it appeared to be a technical glicth in the beginning…

  39. @owl6218

    February 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm

the interviewer does not appear to be listening to the guest…

  40. @Appleblade

    February 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm

Amazon always tells you what products are best sellers, which differs from their 'recommended' products. Then it appears competitors are ranked by some mix of low price and popularity. There is ample space provided the cloud lord to do your best marketing / hard sell of your products virtues… so I often buy something far down the list, not recommended, not the cheapest, but more appealing to me. Amazon takes my choice and, I think, learns about me and that affects it's rankings for similar items the next time I log in. Those facts work against Yanis's depiction of this system as Feudal rather than Market based. Still a capitalist system, I think… and especially so as Walmart and Etsy and all the other options present competition among the cloud lords that was absent among landlords.

  43. @Appleblade

    February 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm
