Sweden’s No-Lockdown Strategy: Did it Work to Defeat COVID? Is This the Way Forward?- TLDR News

Published

on

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Sweden has been a bit of an outlier. Instead of fully locking down the country decided to leave most things open, only slightly changing life for its citizens. The hope was that this approach would be more successful than a full lockdown. Six months later we take a look at what happened and discuss whether the strategy has been successful.

Now, one year later I am curious as to 'how they are doing'. Did it work or not? How about with the new Omicron varient?

Britains expert Neil Fergusson thought Sweden would get 85000 deaths? 😀 He really got his numbers wrong unless the Virus suddenly mutates into a super killer and then everyone on earth will be in danger. Still missing another 60k deaths to fulfill his prediction. And the UK has more deaths per 100k people. Which is tragic ofcourse. The United states also got a higher deathrate per capita.

Just counting cases doesn't compare, because people are now largely vaccinated, so an infection isn't as dangerous anymore as it was in the beginning.

Our government aren’t allowed to lock down it’s in our constitution
They can’t force us to stay at home 🏠
But we try and follow their advice
And how did it work for all countries who have had lock down ?
We are down to a few every week now
And our economy running good also

the bigger sense of community in the region the greater change of controlling the spread of covid. even here in Aus. QLD is way way more community focused compared to Sydney and Melbourne where they are more self preservation focused.

I think, in hindsight, this was a brilliant move by China. Let's cause an economic war, we don't need bullets. Spread the virus, the whole world goes into lock down, factories close and the only place producing anything is us so we'll be top of the pile. Job done.

Sweden is as F-d as any country, every small business owner, musicians, you name it, is gone.
    Make room for:
Great Reset, you will own nothing but be happy.

  14. @Lemonz1989

    February 15, 2024 at 11:26 pm

Sweden also has a pretty low population density and is quite large, making traveling between regions less practical, compared to most other European countries. This is also a natural barrier to spread of disease.

Denmark, for example, the 2nd worst affected country in the Nordic area has 5.5 times the population density and is 410,000 km2 smaller than Sweden. It only takes 3 hours and 45 minutes by train from Aarhus (2nd largest city) to Copenhagen (largest city and capital), and they are almost on each end of the country.

When taking this into consideration, Sweden has done quite poorly compared to Denmark, which did have a strict lockdown. Sweden has 3.3 times the deaths/capita compared to Denmark, in July 2021.

  15. @miridium121

    February 15, 2024 at 11:26 pm

As of june 29th, 2021, Sweden has about 14 600 dead (ca 1 400/million) while neighbouring countries like Finland and Norway, with similar culture and population densities, but With lockdown, each have under 1000 dead and under 175 dead per million. Denmark, similar in culture but way higher density than Sweden, lies at ca 2500 dead and 440 dead per million.
So it is rather safe to say that Sweden's strategy was a fail.

Tell the world that the testing is 100 % accurate. What can expert say when some people who test positve next day they try second option another test & found negative !wtf.. can any expert explain ?????

  17. @danditto6145

    February 15, 2024 at 11:26 pm

I live in FLORIDA, we agree with Sweden. Our restaurants and businesses are open with little to no effect. The lockdown was worse than the disease.

  18. @Ancovg

    February 15, 2024 at 11:26 pm

Considering that Sweden only has a population density of 25/km2 and The Netherlands (my country) has 511.5/km2 It's not comparible.

  19. @joaqimsvensson734

    February 15, 2024 at 11:26 pm

A thing most ppl don't realize is that the Swedish government aren't allowed to force lockdown or masks on their population thanks to our constitution
