In the past couple of months, the EU has been trying to come up with a more complete China policy, especially as the EU has always had a confusing China policy. In this video, we explore the recent EU debate on how to approach China, the divisions within the EU, and who’s right about the sort of relationship the EU should have with China.

I'm baffled, China hadn't changed its just gotten richer and is getting more partners including the US, western Europe is like am abusive spouse, I need you but I hate you policy. This crisis like many is by the collective west for reasons we can only guess. Europe should worry and do what's best for it's citizens whatever that.. Is. Thanks for the update

I don't know why the EU is stressing about this so much. The US is happily willing to blow China off the map while simultaneously doing business with them. We might change the nature of that business when it comes to the focus of our interests at the time, but money is money.

Attempting to isolate Russia failed pretty badly, it most certainly won't work against China & the west needs to wake up to this.

The Chinese government is comparable to the Nazis as far as their crimes against humanity is concerned. That should be a factor in these relations.

Interesting use of the term 'neutral' in this video.
Putting aside the fact that picking which arguments to include or not (which are THE three) is a matter of prioritisation and so not neutral
the arguments assume that the EU's interests are what is at issue. So what controversy is the channel neutral in precisely? It seems, neutral in the debate being had in the EU. but is still partisan on behalf of the EU.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with this position on the face of it. But the claim of neutrality seems rather strained.

Eu has not crisis with China.
USA has forced the EU to have problems with China.
USa has lost his 1 position as the most powerfull economy.
Usa is the one with problems.
Does Europe have problems in Taiwan when no fucking body recognizes the country, but the ones who have there all their cheap labour ?
Made in TAWAN, designed by an oligarch in Jacksonville.

First the EU was too dependent on Russia, now they make the same mistake and is too dependent on China for trade.

Let me tell you a joke: From January to March this year, French and German investment in China increased by 635.5% and 60.8% respectively year-on-year. In addition, investment in China from the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Switzerland and South Korea also increased by 680.3%, 179.7%, 47.7%, 47.4% and 36.5% respectively, and investment from countries along the “Belt and Road” increased by 27.8%. Then someone said, "In the environment of Sino-US competition, European countries have been pushed to the United States."

China's neutral and objective attitude and the business environment of the world's largest manufacturing power are here, but there are always people who think they are smarter than capital…😅

I think the EU should derisk, and be ready to decouple if Beijing gets more aggressive towards Taiwan. Relying heavily on a country with not the best track record has been shown by the weaponization of energy by Russia to be a very bad idea.

    February 16, 2024 at 6:18 am

On the taiwan issue, europe should take a strong stance. It's really an opinion, but I believe the situation is very relatable to the ukraine and russian relationship. I'm not against trading with china, however there needs to be strict limits and sanctions on a lot of there actions, and they need to be held to account. However, europe needs to avoid a russian gas situation of total reliance on their trade too. I don't think europe is enemies with china, but we should be mutually benefiting each other long term.

i think the whole "china a is too big to avoid" is something I didn't expect to be so obvious, mainly in how most of the "new" electronics I have are from china or parts manufactured in china, so I think there should be some "agreements" as in to not completely cut ties, but all made with caution (broadly speaking)

The problem is the European countries have either forgotten WW I & II, let alone THE CONCERT OF EUROPE!
And are doing BS instead of coming together as greater republic of democratic states,

  30. @tisho91

My humble opinion as a Bulgarian and Eastern European is that Europe should stop hanging around pleasing dictators and decentralize more businesses and investments inside Europe.
Since we're part of NATO and the US is a security partner and a guarantee of peace in Europe, then we must consider that in a multi-polar world, the EU should guard its own interests and bulid even stronger economies within the EU. Yes, there is strategic ambiguity down the road. But at the end of the day, democracies should support democracies.
If China attacks Taiwan or support Russia, we must cut ties completely and increase trade with other democratic countries that are not necessarily global superpowers. And listen more to what Poland and the Baltics say.

I guess the new era of cold war is starting to show off. Economics is never irrelevant to politics. EU needs to decide whether will concede the value persisted by CCP; lacking democracy.

  34. @rickjames18

    February 16, 2024 at 6:18 am

The EU needs to decouple, it is the only rational option based on recent events. Re-risking is nothing but a bandaid that will not stick. The imbalances are real and the EU needs to reindustrialize to an extent. Obviously they cannot do it all alone but there are plenty of rapidly growing countries that are friendly to the west. China is NOT going to help with climate change in fact they use the issue to pursue more market control in alternative industries/resources. They are also still increasing CO2 emissions and building 2 new coal plants every week in China. They also fund dozens around the world at the moment. The CCP does NOT care as the biggest contributer to climate change by far and growing. The EU is making the same mistakes they made with Russia and this will not end well. decouple will be painful but it can be done if done right. They can work with others and do it slowly. We cannot allow China to control critical markets or continue increasing military capabilities using western technology.

Thanks for real depending of european, only creepy that's US its same depending on china?!
Import some goods from america to europe!
U seeing we are destroy another market?
Buying some from canada, USA or zentral america!
Its never cheap or easy from allies buying then from ccp betrayer!
Stopping buying chinese and paying a bit more? Why?

  36. @vitamin635

    February 16, 2024 at 6:18 am

EU and China relationship was going well until China got its wings and want to monopolize and OEM everything. Too much risk when companies in China can default by their government the next morning or shutdown to pandemic.
China wants to dominate in manufacturing and also now designing, that is just too dangerous for any business or country to have interest in.

Luckily a lot of countries are not fully dependent on China for production (Made in China), but as you see a lot of it is. Production is in India, Vietnam, the Philippines ..etc
So we need to get ready to pay for everything more (not sure that other counties can provide as much production power as China, or for the same price)

The west should move away from China completely. India is a bad idea as well.

The West needs to understand what China wants – The CCP believes that their system is superior to all others in the world and that they must liberate all countries of their way of life and replace it with a authoritarian regime – its the only way forward in the minds of the CCP regime. They cannot fathom a nation like Taiwan being successful and FREE, it does not compute in their brains.
