While we always have to be careful to not just accept those criticising an objectively proven corrupt and authoritarian government as being automatically the best political option, Orban is implementing the standard playbook in Hungary and employing the standard phrasebook in response to criticism. So, Orban is a cancer in European politics. But that doesn't mean the alternatives are by default beyond criticism themselves. And to be very blunt, the real problem isn't even Orban, Trump, Boris Johnson, Farage, Mick Wallace, etc. It's the failure of those members of the public who can't even do basic reasoning, or who can't develop basic values who are the real cause of concern. Orban couldn't do a single thing without a mass of conditioned support.

Hungary has steadfastly gone against the imposition of sanctions against Russia in order to protect its own economy and citizens. The EU on the other hand has created hardship for industry and its citizens by participating in US financial and economic sanctions against Russia against its own industries' and citizens' interests. Only high level corruption could do that.
