CORRECTION: In the video, we claimed that those with permanent residency in the UK do not need to apply to the Settlement Scheme. This is not entirely correct – only if you have Indefinite Leave to Remain/Enter or if you already have UK/Irish citizenship are you not required to apply. We suggest that you contact your embassy or visit the government website where possible

This is all interesting and new to me…I say that because I live in the U.S. and of course I am a U.S. Citizen. With that being said…we have our own issues right now, which will hopefully change in 2021?

I have visited all countries of the E.U. and must say I've enjoyed the culture, food, and people, and hope these change's will eventually works out for all those involved.

It is not true that 'nothing changes' with settled status. Settled status does not grant the right to vote in local elections, a rights which came with EU citizenship. Also, settled status does not come with a physical proof of status, such as a card or document. This will cause seriuos problems when settled EU citizens apply for jobs or try to rent flats after the transition period.

If you have a parent that you will have to take care of in any European country, you will have to put them in a nursing home as they get old. I wouldn’t be able to put my mum in a home so I’m moving back to be able to help her. Even though I’m a British citizen now, there’s no way I could take her in after brexit. Also sick and tired of 40% of the population waiting for us to leave. It is what it is, comes with the territory when you leave home, you always risk the place you go will turn hostile towards you 🤷‍♂️

Dear channel creators. I would like to correct you regarding eu settlement scheme. You are right about fact that EU citizens need to register till June 2021, but I noticed that "settled status" is required already for example in universal credit application. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/claiming-benefits-if-youre-from-the-EU/before-you-apply/check-if-you-have-the-right-to-reside-for-benefits/ I do not know when UK last time gave equal rights to EU citiznes, but it was loong time ago. And since during transition period all EU citizens should be treated equally, UK government already breaks the law regarding equality, with requiring "settled status" already before june 2021. Btw. I do not trust Boris government nose between their eyes. BoJo was proven lying in the past

I’m a Polish EU citizen living in the U.K. and I have permanent remain status probably because my family run a furniture company which employs 4 people, I know plenty that haven’t even got a reply or got rejected. It’s unfair that the U.K. can just pick and choose who they want meanwhile the EU can’t with British citizens living in the EU. Imagine Spain only granted residency to to 400k of the 1 million Brits living there, it would be an outrage.

The EU should have it's own propaganda machine to stamp on every single benefit that directly affect its residents that it only happened because of the EU. I have the impression people have no idea which rights they have under the EU. They simply take stuff for granted.

Studying or working in another country without bureaucracy is a HUGE privilege. They should know it only happened because of the EU.

I am wondering if the UK leaves without a deal , the EU settlement scheme would not be worth the paper it is written on. It appears if this was the case the UK would revert back to our law and enact the Right of Abode, essentially only allowing those who come from Commonwealth countries to settle here. Only time will tell.

The enemy of the eu citizens is the ignorance of the employers. I know more about the requirements and my rights than my bosses do. We had a meeting this week when one senior staff asked 'what is happening on monday after brexit?' . No one said anything. I had to step in and told her nothing is happening until the end of 2020.

It's ironic as all the managers are british and have the condescending attitude towards the european staff as if they think we're stupid and don't know squat. The truth is most of the european staff there is better educated than the bosses and can speak 3 languages. I've heard senior staff say : 'all we need is google translate, I can speak fluent italian and french ! it 's all blablabla!' And they think it's okay and hilarious. The fact is most of the time they need to talk to anyone in europe they come to me because they can't string 3 words together.

On the day the settlement scheme went live on the 29th march 2019, our hr dept sent an email to everyone demanding very sternly we apply for settled status and provide them to online access to the proof we were allowed to work there. I had to remind them politely that they coud go and whistle dixie as I didnt have to produce any proof to them until the first of july 2021. I also reminded them that they already had all the proof they needed with the copy of my passport, national insurance number and credit search which were duly provided when they first employed me in 2013. They have never bothered me again with demands. The truth is I have no intention to apply as I will be leaving the uk in 2021.
My advice to eu citizens being hassled by work or anybody else is don't dazzle them with brilliance but use facts. look at the home office website and learn the rules. It's there in black and white and they can't argue with that. And if they do you can sue for discrimination.

You need 1000£ month to make a video ? First you should change from £ to €, show some respect to EU. Second, you writte an project to get EU foundings, and third the videos you make are too short and too cheap for a need of 1000£, looks more like a joke to me. Hope mine friendly advice helps 🙂

  34. @oneobekanobe

If stripping the British citizens of their EU citizenship is the Tories idea of taking back control, it could be argued that the Tories actually mean to take back control over their British citizens by blocking them from accessing their EU rights. One down and what's next? Freedom of movement within the EU has to be the single most outstanding achievement of the Union. Living in the EU is like living in the USA only better because we are blessed with a rich diversity of cultures on the continent. Why would anyone hate it is beyond me.. It's a truly sad day for my British friends and for the rest of us on the continent

  42. @___David__

    February 17, 2024 at 4:06 pm

    Not concerned at all.
The EU settlement scheme in Portugal is kinda irrelevant as the Portuguese government has already gone beyond the requirements set by it and established easier procedures for the over 45000 Brits living in Portugal, EVEN if there's a no-deal Brexit, under the terms of the Treaty of Windsor of 1386, which is far older than any EU treaty, AND already made easier for British citizens to move to Portugal before the EU was even planned to exist.

I don't see Britain not reciprocating either. So as far as the world's oldest alliance is concerned, it'll all be fine.

  43. @basuradeinternet

    February 17, 2024 at 4:06 pm

In the whole American CONTINENT (from Canada to Argentina) ius solis, or the right to citizenship for being born in the national territory is the norm.

As all the countries in the continent (not only the US) are a melting pot of cultures from all over the world the European concept of nation state can not be applied, there for ius sanguinis is not the norm

  44. @blameyourself4489

    February 17, 2024 at 4:06 pm

Unfortunately it seems that British people only see these point valid for others but not for themselves. It's similar to British people in Spain believing that when they voted for Brexit it will not have influence on their lives. "They need us more than we need them", remember?

  45. @nicolorivoir4399

    February 17, 2024 at 4:06 pm

    Hi
FYI: Besides the US, Mexico also grants citizenship if you’re born there and, like was mentioned, other countries like e.g. Germany by means of heritage, i.e. nationality of one’s parents. So, with just a birth certificate and any id, one can regain both nationalities at any time… much to the dismay of either country ;P
