Oldest Nobel winner Rita Levi-Montalcini dies at 103

http://www.euronews.com/ Rita Levi-Montalcini, an Italian neurologist who defied Fascist anti-Semitic persecution to conduct research and went on to win a Nobel Prize, has died in Rome at the age of 103.

Her study of cells helped improve understanding of conditions such as tumours and senile dementia.

She shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1986 with an American biologist for their discovery of nerve growth factor, vital for the survival of certain nerve cells.
