UPDATE: Since we wrote/animated this video, Erdogan has changed his mind (again), and has now said that Turkey will indeed veto both Swedish and Finnish accession to NATO (source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/5/17/turkey-confirms-opposition-to-nato-membership-for-sweden-finland ). This doesn't mean NATO accession is off the table; it's at least possible that Erdogan is threatening his NATO veto as leverage to secure concessions from other NATO members. Nonetheless, it's a spanner in the works, and it won't be well received in Stockholm and Helsinki, or Washington for that matter.

NATO have let both Finland and Sweden down by not given full NATO membership. There are already nuclear weapons located in Kaliningrad.

The Europeans will, Turkey on the other hand is making power plays and grabs in their own self interest to try and play both sides, Russia and NATO, to inflate their power within the organization.
What Turkey is banking on is that the level of toxic and problems they create will be forgotten and forgiven. It will not. Erdogan is just making Turkey the unflushed toilet of NATO that the other members are waiting for the plumber on.

The devastation to the homes and other structures in this one small village has to be seen to see the totality of what the Russian Army has done. The emotional suffering that the Ukrainian People are bearing with this invasion is un forgivable . Russia should be banned from doing business with the family of Democratic Nations. Thousands of Good Russians still with a conscious and a respect for people of other nations have left Russia by the thousands.

Erdogans racist ideas about terrorists is anyone who is against him. Among the people he listed are journalists and artists. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We don't need NATO. We have been at peace for 200 years, succesfully. It's sad that our government has been pressured into this by the Finnish change of heart. We are many against it. Russia's threats are empty. Finland is not dependant on Russian energy. Regardless, even if we join we will not accept foreign military bases or nuclear weapons in the Baltic Sea. 🇸🇪

  32. @kristintambal3945

For the maintime Finland and Sweden must be allied, and with plan's to join NATO should form first defence against attack and retaliatory attack in case of invasion, that one Will suport each other just in case what happened in Ukraine will also happen to them whlie applying for NATO membership

Sweden joining NATO is just so sad. Swedish neutrality or non-alliance was a central part of its identity. It's shaped its politics and society. This is a break from 200 years of history, and not really necessary either. And the worst part is that there was no official referendum. I respect the Swiss so much for taking their neutrality so seriously! They're not even EU! The Americans (really I mean in term of politics and not people) can fuck right off! This makes me so mad…

  40. @marsanen2158

    February 17, 2024 at 12:54 am

    My question is:
Is the 'open door' policy inact and a fundamental piece of NATO, or is that just nice words with little meaning.

  41. @clwoni1414

  42. @enko56

    February 17, 2024 at 12:54 am

I'm from sweden and I do not agree with this, I know we haven't been neutral for a while, but I would support a move away from Nato and towards neutrality.
Why are we all saying we want peace but there is always a 'we' and 'them', and billions being spent on millitary.

  43. @clo5282

    February 17, 2024 at 12:54 am

To stop the military budget escalations and use them for humanity purposes and show its commitment for peace, Russia must apply and join NATO instead of creating counter new alliances.
A major historic step to peace in Europe.
