I think Turkey in the EU is a bad idea. apart from the fact that only 3% of this country is in Europe, it has a completely different religion and culture. The problem is not that Turkey is Muslim, the problem is that their faith does not allow them to FULLY integrate with Europeans. example? Turkish women cannot have relationships with Europeans and at the same time their men do it masse with our womans. if you do something and at the same time forbid the other party doing the same, it is not full integration. Since 2015, we have huge problems with the flood of illegal immigrants. The EU paid huge money to Turkey to stop the immigration wave, and after a few months they were released to us, and this is not what partners do. The goal of the European Union is that we should be ONE and Turkey is simply too different.

Europe is Europe. And Asia is Asia.
Turkey is NOT Europe and Turkish are NOT Europeans. I'm tired of repeating the same thing again and again.
– Only 3% of its territory is in Europe, the remaining 97% of its territory is in Asia (Asia Minor).
– As a result, only an insignificant 0.2% of the European territory is Turkish.
– Its capital (Ankara) is located in Asia, like most of its cities and population (only a part of Istanbul is in Europe).
– Their alphabet and language do not have a European origin.
– Its population does not have a European origin.
– They are mainly Muslims and, in fact, their main political party (and current president) is Islamic.
– Apart from their religion and all other mentioned things, their traditions and culture are not European.
– They do NOT have any link with/to Europe in any aspect, despite wanting to westernize.
– Historically they have always been an enemy of Europe.
Unlike Russia, which:
– 25% of its territory is in Europe.
– As a result, 40% of the current European territory is Russian (when the USSR it was even more).
– Its capital (Moscow), all main cities and most part of its population is located in Europe. In fact the European Russians are the ones who have always ruled the country.
– Their alphabet (Cyrillic) and language do have a European origin.
– Most of its population do have a European origin (slavic).
– They are mainly Christians, like the rest of Europe.
– Their traditions and culture are purely European.
– They have strong links with/to Europe as they ARE and have always been part of Europe.
– Historically they have always been Europe and Europeans. Eastern Europeans, yes, but Europeans at the end of the day.
Turkey, at best, could be considered a "transcontinental" country, but only with regards to its land, although you have to keep in mind that only 3% of its territory is part of Europe (0.2% of Europe is Turkish) and NONE of all the other aspects are European in any sense.
So, or it has to be considered 3% / 0.2% transcontinental at best, or, because in the end we do have to consider it one OR another, we must consider it, because it is, Asian. But NEVER European alone, neither geographically, nor culturally.
Turkey is Asia (Asia Minor). Period!
If we start with "open-mindedness", the idea of Europe would be completely diluted and we would end up incorporating other extra-European territories into the Union that, even if they have almost everything to do with us ethnically and culturally, they are NOT Europe (such as Canada, Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand…) or, much worse still, that without being Europe either, even less do they have something in common with us, not only geographically, but also ethnically or culturally (such as Morocco, Tunisia or Turkey itself.)
What is Europe? A continent, a geographical space, which is also joined by other signs of identity.
Turkey is not even Europe geographically, which is THE FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT of the premises. BUT NEITHER IT IS IN EVERYTHING ELSE!
——————————————————————

Ive come to realize, that in America, it REALLY is a pluralist society with different ethnic groups and religions. And thats been very difficult (has not always been the case), it obviously has its challenges but the IDEAL is ingrained into the fabric of this America. But in Europe, they have not truly embraced that ideal. Most of Europe is essentially racist – in that they think they are superior to non-white countries. They have views of black people & minorities more akin to 1960's America. And there are reasons for that, but thats a BIG difference from the US that I dont think most Americans get. I always thought of Europe as very similar to the US. Its not the same as America at all. "European" means white and Christian. Geographically and culturally, Turkey IS more eastern European then it is middle eastern. Greece and Turkey are near identical (mostly because Turkey took over Greece for 400 years). Yet Greece is European and Turkey is …middle eastern? Ukraine is as east as Turkey is and Italy reaches as south as Turkey is, yet they are European but Turkey is …again middle eastern? Europeans don't want to face the truth, they do laud pluralism and equality but they do not practice it. Europe means Christian and white – how is that different then China? And i'm not placing judgements – but I am calling it out for hypocrisy. Thats a shame for Europe, and its a shame for humanity really, because inevitably Turkeys accession would make Europe stronger and the world to move closer. That ideal is literally what separates China and the US or Russia and the US. Pluralist societies are difficult but make society better. Most of the innovation in the US comes from immigrants – over 90% of research published are from first generation Americans, that is the fabric that builds this country – but thats not an ideal Europe has embraced. Thats OK but just call it what it is then – dont hide behind "human rights abuses" Germany has more locked up journalists then Turkey or "values" or platitudes of contrived morale superiority. Just say, "being european is being white and christian", and lastly GOD BLESS THE USA THOUGH WE HAVE OUR FAULTS THIS COUNTRY IS IN GENUINE PURSUIT OF THE GREATEST IDEAL ON THE PLANET.

February 18, 2024 at 10:05 pm
Listen, Turkey has to make two choices. Either stay radical muslim like right now and follow your own agenda, or accept the big demands to join EU and salvaize.
Now, first and foremost, Turkey needs to stronger its constitiuon and make it real liberty secularism that NO Government ever comes into power will dare to change it, even with some islamists support. End the tariqqa inside turkey. Put up a mechanism far efficent and powerful than military so guys like erdogan would never dare to cross even if they are voted in.
Second, turkish people needs to be educated country wide. They are too religious and uneducated compared to average EU citizen. This, cannot be accepted for European Union who is full of christian and atheist countries.
But even if it all were to happen, I would not believe in Turk's sincerity. Nobody in EU would. Thats what turkey, not only its Government but its fanatic sunni people from inner anatolia showed to world in last decades.
What im saying is, turks, dont you ask for membership from us unless you make a provable, real and geninune society-wise change in pretty much everything.

… Turkish apology !!! can Turks please ask your Turkish parents what part they played on 6-Sep-1955 for the genocidal brutal Constantinople Pogrom “Turks gone mad” as they massacre the traditional Greeks in Istanbul !!!
These are just SOME of the reasons nobody wants Turkey in the EU !!!
@SD-SD-SD
February 18, 2024 at 10:05 pm
Wake up Turkey and get a reality check.
When Turkey :
– 6-Sep-1955 apologises for the genocidal brutal Constantinople Pogrom “Turks gone mad” as they massacre the traditional Greeks in Istanbul !!!
– adopts civilised principles,
– stops acting like a pirate nation,
– stops violating human rights like it’s an Olympic sport,
– stop threatening every single country in the region with more invasions because Turkey suffers from small d*ck syndrome,
– stops implementing ongoing genocides,
– stops using chemical weapons on minority groups like the Kurds,
– stops ignoring international law and treaties,
– and quite simply starts resembling a modern day 21st century civilised country
Then maybe then Turkey will be considered a modern day civilised nation .
It’s that simple !!!
Turkey is in a constant self inflicted backward state.

there is a very easy way for turks and turkey to improve their relations with europe; eu leaders has to openly say; 'we don't want you'.
there is no possibility that turkey is a member of the eu, even aliens know this. so why don't we play honest?
turkey can continue to be a 'friend' as part of nato and the westernmost country in the east. and turks could love eu for being honest.
the worst thing is; the turkish society's tendency towards an anti-europe situation due to the hypocritical behavior of eu leaders, especially in the late 2000s. this does not benefit anyone.

I never want Turkey to join the European Union. If one day European countries admit that they owe their wealth and level of prosperity to the exploitation of Africa and the Middle East, I would consider supporting my country's entry into the EU. I find it quite amusing how the "woke" culture propagated by European countries gets conflated with human rights. On one hand, they continue to exploit Africa in 2023, while on the other hand, they talk about LGBTQ+ rights and similar issues. It's quite humorous, my friend. These are substantial fallacies. Anti-Turkey sentiment stems from a thousand years of propaganda against Turkey. Throughout history, Europeans have fed false information about Turks, leading to misconceptions and false perceptions. I liken it to a well-presented European dish that tastes like crap.
@spyrosz3792
February 18, 2024 at 10:05 pm
I can think of many reasons for Turkey not joining the EU:
Their terrible economy
The dictatorship regime
Their borders which reach the middlea east
Taking part in the war in the middle east
Being a muslim nation which means..they don't align with western values
Their aggresive stance against Greece mostly
Not recognising Cyprus while recognising "The Turkish northern Cyprus"
Their ties with Russia/ problems in NATO
AND their POPULATION. They would be the country with the MOST representatives in the european parliament..
Those are the most impotant ones.
