Recently, Finland finally joined NATO after a long accession process, ensuring greater security from its new allies. But even without NATO, they were well placed to defend themselves and, given their preparedness, might be considered impossible to invade.

Finland is Finland. Not a puppet of rissia. Not about to let anyone try to change that. And now, part of Nato.

You all need to turn off your TVs, Brainwashed sheep beinh honest. Finland was never at risk of war with Russia if it remained neutral. NATO is the true enemy of the world and will turn your sons and daughters into canon fodder. North Atlantic terrorist organisation

Historically, it was the Western kingdoms and Papacy who were expansionnists since around the 10th. century. For instance German imperialism Eastward with Teutonic and Livonian Orders, the Crusades against Pagans and Orthodoxes, extermination of Prussians, etc.
Sweden by the 13th c.. became a Baltic Empire pushing into Russian realms (Novgorod Republic).
Caroligians tried to pose as the sole heir of Roman Empire, thus tried to destroy Byzance, which they basically did with the 4t Crusade long before Turks. Russians as Orthodoxes became a target of Roman Germanic imperialism.
So in the North, Karelia and Gulf of Finland, Baltic edges, Swedes, some Danes, some Germans use to attack russian cities (Pskov, etc) for centuries. It was Swedish Empire that took the land by Neva, cutting Rurikid kingdoms off the Baltic.
Russia hhad to repeatedly face war, and as counter-reaction, had to push Westward in return.
An important node of these movements is the nowadays Grodno area in Belarus. Karelia, initially a Novgorod ally, was another tectonic line.
These days, Russia can't care less about 5 millions Finns and their useless land.
Btw, Finland became independent from Sweden in the early 19th. with the help of Russia. Wonder why Finland has a 15% Swedish minority and swedish is co-official language? Five centuries of swedish colonisation and rule. Actually Helsinki original name is Helsingfors, it 's swedish,, city what founded by Gustav Vasa as a way to compete in Baltic trade with Reval, the german city, nowadays …. Tallinn.

I want everyone to know that Russia's military doctrine is not focused on attacking any country, and also Russia's military doctrine does not provide for the use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear countries even in the event of an attack by these countries on Russia. The use of nuclear weapons against countries that have nuclear weapons will only be carried out in the event of an attack by these countries on Russia using nuclear weapons. I hope I explained clearly.

By the way, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was the last of the treaties concluded by Germany.

1933 – Great Britain, France, Italy – pact of four

    1934 – Poland – Hitler-Pilsudski Pact

    1935 – Great Britain – maritime agreement

    1936 – Japan – Anti-Comintern Pact

    1938 – September, Great Britain – declaration of non-aggression

    1938 – December, France – declaration of non-aggression

    1939 – March, Romania – economic agreement

    1939 – March, Lithuania – non-aggression pact

1939 – May, Italy – pact of alliance and friendship

    1939 – May, Denmark – non-aggression pact

    1939 – June, Estonia – non-aggression pact

    1939 – June, Latvia – non-aggression pact

    1939 – August, USSR – non-aggression pact

The Anti-Comintern Pact of November 25, 1941 was extended for another 5 years. In 1941, the Anti-Comintern Bloc was replenished by Romania, Denmark, Bulgaria, Finland, Croatia, Slovakia and part of China occupied by Japan.

As someone who came to Europe, I find 3 countries the most fascinating.
    Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands.

Switzerland and Finland are countries that have the highest respect in my book for what they did in ww2. That is how a nation should be.

You failed to mentioned that, even though the Russian invasion of 1939 backfired miserably in favour of the Finnish, the invasion of 1943 was so successful that the Finnish government saw itself forced to negotiate a surrender in order to avoid losing the entire country to the Russians. That was when Finland gave some territory to them. Finland was lucky that in 1943, the main goal of the Russians was Germany.

Always knew Putin's bs narrative about "NATO expansion" was just that, Russian bs. With Finland in NATO, the border flat out doubled and the Finnish are the more formidable military power in Europe this modern day. This was always about land grab/resources by Putin and Russia, back in 2014 when they lost control of Ukraine through proxy government and saw they weren't able to sign Ukraine into the EAEU.

Did any Russians talk about attacking Finland? So why is Finland so cowardly? This is all part of nato plan to put nukes in Finland which would in turn provoke Russia and then you have a situation like Ukraine all over again…

Only in a nuclear way is Russia anything, it’s shown us all its useless at modern warfare and the joke bout nukes is who owns them loses as all nuclear country’s will pretty much wipe each other out and the odd few in remote places will inherit the earth 500 years later.

Putin is a horrible person and a total bastard, but I don't think he's stupid enough to mess with the Fins. In 1939 the Fins embarrassed the Soviets and exposed their military incompetence. Sure, eventually the numerical superiority of the Red Army did get them to the point where they could negotiate peace from a position of strength, but it took FAR more men and resources than they were initially willing to commit. Finland wasn't even that ready at the time, but now they are. NATO or no NATO, Finland is a force to be respected and avoided.

All these bunkers will also come in handy in the event of an expected weakening of earth's magnetic field strength allowing increased cosmic ray penetration strong enough to damage life. Fins might become the starter population for a new civilisation if that eventually proves catastrophic.

  30. @aleksiblomqvist1612

    February 18, 2024 at 1:30 am

long story short, we have a thing called a total defense strategy, basically the thing you explained. and also i read somewhere that roughly 80-90% of finns are willing to sacrifice their lives to our beautiful country, so i guess that also helps.

  31. @erichvonmolder9310

    February 18, 2024 at 1:30 am

Russia couldn't invade another country if it wanted too now, especially one who is so well entrenched, modern and ready. If the Russian can't take Ukraine how in the heck would it take on Finland? Don't worry, take Finland off your list.

Media, govt, and business people meet regularly. That right there is miles from the USA and klms from us here in Canada. America’s brilliant idea, the free speech bs, is let capitalism run everything. Capitalism doesnt care if you live or die. Good governance with an educated population does care, somewhat, if you live or die. The forced military experience surely has some detractors but it makes for an experience of discipline, for once in your life, something everyone has in common, and some useful training

You didn't even mention our huge artillery power, which is one of the largest in europe if not the largest… I wouldn't say we're uninvadable but we do give such a good fight that it won't be worth it, especially since we're in NATO, itvwould be dumb to try.

As a Finn I think that this senseless invasion of Ukraine was the last straw for Finns. We have harbored a lot of (not so) hidden bitterness towards Russia after the 2nd. world war. Russia has tried to reach it´s tentacles to our inner politics constantly over the years. We have had to keep an amiable mask to deal with their aggressive politics. While all this amicability was going on we have been doing this: preparing for the worst. Now our mask has lifted and we have had enough pretending that Russia is our friendly neighbor. I have no ill will against regular Russian people who have to deal with living there. However, Russia as a nation is a failed state which needs to be dismantled and build again from the ground up. The oligarchs and rampant corruption needs to be rooted out if Russia is to have any chance for a brighter future. How this will be done, I don´t know. First Ukraine needs to win. This is essential for the safety of all europe since Putin and his cronies will not stop. Only thing they respect is power, they consistently lie and disregard any treaties made with them. I feel appalled that we have to share a border with them.

If we learned anything from the invasion of Ukraine, it's that no one should fear the Russian Army.
