The funny fact about far right butt clenchers is that anti-EU, """nationalistic""" policies only serve to dismantle power from institutions, rules and various policy frameworks, and instead open them up to coercion and corruption from bigger, wealthier, more consolidated players. Without EU, European countries, especially the small ones, would be little more than tooth pickings to countries like China. Nothing about standing off against your neighbors, your region etc on petty pride reasons, or shameless power-grabbing by the foul mouthed few, creates wealth, or independence for the country.
On the contrary, they'd be smaller, weaker, more irrelevant and hence more vulnerable-in effect vouching for, and setting the stage for a 21st century, feudalistic Europe. As the adage says, divide and conquer, but this time it wouldn't be the Europeans doing the conquering…

With that said, I am very happy to see not everyone is a thick headed door mat and parties like Volt see the value and importance of a greater, more unified, and therefore stronger Europe. I wish them well.

No. It’s a threat to our national sovereignty. We will oppose this at all costs and if our current government won’t listen then they will be replaced. It’s time to say adios to this dangerous organization.

I think that the idea of a European Federation federation would be a great idea, but some left wing ideas are not necessarily good in all circumstances, I personally believe that Renew Europe has a better agenda.

Asylum seekers will allways garvitate towards more developed countries, with a good social system. As long as western european companies pay half (more like third) the money for the same jobs on the east, not a single "asylum seeker" in their right mind would consider staying there. Western europeans demand the east to take in more nonetheless…
Dear westerners, you can't have your cake and eat it too, unless we choose to curtail the asylum seekers right to free movement within the EU, but that is again, against our values isn't it?
If we look at other issues, for example a common army, or foregin affairs, i'm all for centralization. Even fiscal union would have some serious benefits I think, but the western stance on migration is simply untenable.

    February 21, 2024 at 5:01 am

Yes, top down is the only way. So we can leave behind us politicians that are only looking afther their own national businesses. Europe is too diverse to creatie a federal Europe but a Confederal Europe of the regions is a serious option. Look at Gemany, Belgium, Italy (even Switzerland) etc, all states made up out smaller states.

Despite the carbon tax (first we need to make the green energy affordable with subsides) and the european federalism (i'm a confederalist and a municipalist), some of their polices, mainly in migration and prisions are really libertarian in the progressive sense.

even regarding that, in a nation unified as one, why should your people and mine have different interests?

The problem with a federal Europe is that everything is going to be centralized to the de facto capital of said federation, creating a surrounding core of rich people while the periphery is impoverished having their resources taken from them. This has been the problem whenever an empire or emperor has tried to unite Europe, from Napoleon to Charles the Great to the Roman Empire.

I agree with volt but as an eastern european i'm not trusting anything that comes form the east or the west. More countries to take on refugees? Take a hike, plz. I hope they are talking about those handful of nations which, since the sail ship has been invented, ruthlessly plundered, enslaved, exploited, killed and horded the wealth and resources of all the world basically into their own pockets. Helping these nations regain stability and development, would just be a fraction of what they stole from them. Don't even try putting this on nations that didnt have colonies and empires and that didnt create hellholes out of ppls homes, which they are trying to escape now. i Know this is a year old and most likely dead, but fck it. And i'm more than happy to see, ppl from former and current colonies flooding their masters lands. I hope this will force them to make a choice: either repair the dmg they have caused to gain wealth and power, or slowly loos everything to the ppl trying to escape the mess they created. Good luck, for me…either is good. This is exactly why i don't trust this. It's more than likely that this is a product of the exact same nations i'm talking about, and ofcourse they are trying to push their interests and their consequences on others.

Mass immigration of individuals/groups refusing to integrate is a bad idea even as a thought, and as policy, it becomes worse.

  43. @reucutajar

    February 21, 2024 at 5:01 am

Why should anyone vote for VOLT ie: against their own interests. National autonomy is the ONLY thing that guarantees any sort of prosperity for the local communities. VOLT is a federalist party that wants the EU to be a single country. That would inevitably concentrate power and resources centrally and leave small or poorer countries to rot…… I hope VOLT as a party disappears soon. EU countries shouldn't give up any more national decision making powers.
