As EU citizen , I think many highly developed democratic countries Australians New Zealanders, canadians , east asian countries (except china and north korea who dont use them) will realize the EU cannot just do whatever they want either with google.
It isnt just the USA. Or just Britain with its brexit.
there is also Switzerland Iceland and norway etc.
The EU simply want to change a globally used tech company without even consenting with all the countries who use them.
just because they think what is best for them makes the EU still look like what you negatively describe the United States.

As an american gen z socialist my country wants to keep using tech like meta and such to spy on the EU sense they have contracts with the us government and such they don't want the EU to have big tech for many reasons so that they can keep their dominance because of the new pointless cold war with china im glad the eu while its become a vassel of the USA is still somewhat trying to fight back

TLDR europe manufactured the imaginary concept of “big tech” to legislate in the spaces it can’t compete. Nobody is forcing europeans to use US technology.

This is not attack on Big Tech, but mainly on free speech for users on platforms with a big reach.

This isn't about tech giants, this is about you, your opinion and free speech that deviates from the mainstream narrative.

The answer to this question is simple, the EU doesn't, they simply work WITH the tech giants to limit the rights of ordinary citizens.

Hopefully they can help independent developers like myself who have been treated unfairly by Google Play's Review Team. In my case they suspended my apps and were not transparent about the moderation process and not telling me exactly why the app was suspended. And the reasons they did give were totally invalid and could easily be proved wrong. But what you can you do?

People acting like this is some sort of Robin Hood moment for the EU, are ignoring the fact that the EU are just like big tech corporations – unelected, powerful establishment over-regulating and controlling your life.
Helping smaller companies level up is great part of this act.
But what is meant by regulating speech? Free speech is not hate.
They want you to believe free speech is simply hating other people.. but what about when it is just about telling the truth? And who gets to decide what the truth is? How many lies were told around covid? How many of those lies were told by governments? By the EU? By those the EU is close with e.g the WHO? Should the Eurocrats control all speech online?
The act allows the EU access to algorithms to control what we see.. is that a good or bad thing? This could be good but only if the EU were being open about what they plan to promote and censor.. but they are not.
There’s a lot more questions to ask about this act than just the ones in this video.

EU beng able to censor social media by claimi g something they don't like as misinformation is extremely dangerous.
@BenjaminKeller

The EU should just tell them break up or we block you

The Digital Services act also establish goverment cencorers that censor content on social media. It also let's the government force social media to censor "disinformation" whenever they want to, and while there are a lot of fake news and conspercies and garbage, letting the goverment establish a ministry of truth and decide what they want to censor is still distopian.
There is no algorithm to detarimin truth, so what happens if the goverment one day decides to use this new cencorship power to label say opposing polictal views as "disinformation".
The Digital Services act establishes so called trusted flaggers whos sole job it is to report and censor illegal contend and disinformation.
And of course non of that is mentioned in the video.

Macron isn't the president of the EU, so I don't get why we always got to be represented by him in the thumbnail image, it's annoying

Misinformation in America has been used to remove political dissent and free speech the government doesn’t like so this sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. However the part of forcing companies to not monopolies the internet is important and helpful. 🙂
