Katharina Bauer talks about life as an elite athlete with a defibrillator
In April 2018, German pole vaulter Katharina Bauer had a defibrillator fitted in her chest. In March 2019, Bauer was competing at the Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
“When I told my doctors I want to continue vaulting after the surgery they thought I was mad. Now I’m gradually proving that it is possible to be a professional athlete with a heart condition.”
