In Europe we are building up our armaments as a necessity.

Putin and the CCP are absolutely at fault! We were cutting back our spending, but they started a new Cold War, so things had to change drastically.

If Germany is a part of the civilised world, then why doesn’t it pay its debts? Germany owes Australia $200.0Bn (without interest) in WWI reparations and all it does is show the middle finger.

Long overdue. Our military has been neglected for far too many years. Nobody thought it important because there were no bigger wars in Europe (and also because we have a deep aversion to military aggression because of the past), but Ukraine sadly proofed us wrong. As we sit in the middle/heart of Europe, we take a special responsibility. And as much as I hate our current government (SO.MUCH.) this is definitely a good decision they made. There are many people and countries who wish to see us fall…who want to see Europe burn. We need a stronger Europe to protect our values and people!

The draft currently isn't in effect in Germany.
This shift has the potential to bring us back to forcing people to throw their lives away for the crime of being born with a penis, just like most of the west still does, just like Ukraine is doing now.
A huge step back in gender equality and men's rights.
And German women won't say a word.

As an American, I feel that a stronger Europe is a good thing from America and for Europe. If Europe is better able to defend itself, that frees up American military manpower to be focused in the Pacific while also meaning that the US Navy isn't going to be as heavily relied upon for protecting resupply convoys in the event of a major war in Europe.

You forgotten different angle of this. If Ukraine join the EU there will be huge power shift the old super power vc Eastern Europe block of all their members who will move German and France interests to the bottom on priorities. Try to analyse this 😀

I'm a Canadian/Spaniard living in Germany. The scaling up of military spending in my opinion is crucial for the future of the European Union. The obvious benefit is it helps build a stronger and more integrated EU deterrence against Russia. However an ancillary benefit is it helps to liberate Germany from self imposed paralysis due to its Nazi and GDR past. Germany is the last country I would be fearful of toxic and xenophobic nationalism returning to power. EU values of democracy, freedom of speech, and pluralism need to be defended…and promoted. The Canadian in me also desires more economic integration throughout the west as demonstrated by the CETA agreement between Canada and the EU.

I can’t believe how proud and happy I am for this . It was about time Germany stepped up their game , the controversial story of Germany should not effect it now because it has nothing to do with it . A strong Germany means a strong EU . The EU is more untied then ever !

A combined economic, foreign and military policy independent of the US is a great thing, but picking a fight and making an enemy out of Russia is just dumb. All those eggs Russia has that it would share with the EU; that's why the US has engineered this conflict.

Since the US people can elect a person as trump as their president, I feel unsafe relying on the US for millitary support.

Its a good think that the European states are stepping up militarily hopefully that relieves some duties that the United States has to cover.

Too much arm supply and 'training the enemy for war' will make germany branded from 'unfriendly country' to 'provoking country' and get all gas stopped even if ready to pay in Rubles. Germany must play the cards wisely. An unwanted trouble to shoot one's foot. Regards.

Germany should have right to decide what is good for themselves. We don't need USA or EU decide for us. Germany is a great country in the past, now and in the future. We can decide our own future

Croatia also bought 12 Rafales and 80 armored vehiacles from US. We went way over the 2% of the GDP.

Well I had been critizizing Germany's energy politics for some 10 years (no, 12 years, in fact !).
Finally they've got it too: its unhealthy to relie on Russia. They've been sponsoring his war for more than 20 years.
But mostly, that Schröder (igittth) – he should be renounced on his citizenship as a foreign agent.
Well, Schröder made 20 Mio € of it, and Merkel ??? She's on holidays in Italy. Shame on both !

As a german, I always find it kinda weird to think about, Germany started both WWs and afterward was more than broke and everybody hated us for a long time but somehow we still managed to now be the leading country in the EU in terms of both economy and military, and I get that the US helped us but still kinda weird to think about. And ofc I'm also 101% on board with the recent policy changes and hope it's only gonna get better from here
