Will the Western Balkans Ever Join the EU?

Published

on

NordVPN: https://nordvpn.com/tldr

In 2003, the EU promised to begin the process of integrating the Western Balkans countries. However, with ethnic tensions rising, the accession process appears to have stalled. In this video, we examine the factors behind this stagnation and how both parties could resolve the impasse, the prospect of a Single Market membership, and how a two-stage strategy could bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU.

As much as I am for including montenegro, macedonia, albania and maybe in the long rubn even Bosnia and Hercegovina.(Though I still think that extensive internal reforms of the EU are needed before ANY new acessions). I dont see Serbia joining the EU block within the forseeable future. Serbian ideals and value system is inherently incompatible with that of coherent EU, they have shown themselves to be stuborn, agressive, extensively pro-Russian since 2012 and anti-EU with no indicators for any change to come. As such their accesion would only bring harm to the EU and I hope any such attempt will be vetoed.

I think the time has come for Albania to withdraw its request for membership, non-membership is better. It is better for each state to look at its own work. and Europe will say NO and Albanians should not wait for you in vain. We helped you when we saved Christianity from Turkey, but we cannot force Europe to be grateful! Europe is what it is and will not change. She mostly rejects Albanian because she probably sees it as an Islamic country. we are the first in Europe and in our home and we are the people we only welcome! This makes us simply friendly hosts 😊🇦🇱❤️✝️ AUTOCHTHONOUS 🇦🇱

There is a significant detail missing in the two-stage accession process. Turkey joined the EU Economic Customs Union in 1995, and this is where the access came to a halt. Turkey has been incurring losses of billions of dollars every year due to this customs union agreement. While it is Turkey’s right to renegotiate the current rules and tariffs, the EU is playing hardball and using human rights as a pretext to avoid reopening negotiations. The stronger party in such agreements tends to exploit the weaknesses of the other side to maximize their benefits. Balkan countries should take a lesson from this.

France will become a majority-Arab nation before the EU ever gets over its enlargement fatigue. In a few years, the Western Balkan illusions about the ‘Savior EU’ will have completely dissipated and EU’s soft power will be completely exhausted. I see this as a positive development. These nations need to start relying on themselves and their own initiatives to better their lives! Former colonial states will either insist on profiting off of your resources or completely control your democratic development by imposing their own political ideologies, such as wokeism. Everyone can see how the EU cannot forgive Poland and Hungary for showing open dissent to their woke ideology!

My question goes to stupid Albanians who thinks that USA and EU is interested on them

Tell me something, Albanians, why America and EU invests in Serbia and not in Albania?

Why Albanians can't travel visa free in USA if they think that yanks are their ally?

If uncle Sam wants Albania to join EU, Albanians can be members of union in short period of time. Why USA don't want you in EU?

Why is Albania the poorest country in the Balkans and Europe?

Why is pseudo western democracy failing in Albania?

Why are all the countries of Eastern Europe and some of the Balkans part of the EU and Albania is left aside in the ranks of Turkey to never become part of the union?

    I'm waiting for your answers

European union its making business with russia 18.4 billions a year like for example 2022 getting cheap gas and cheap raw materials , those are official statistics of EU with exchange not letting western balkans become member plus lot of Russian olygars spending their billions in eu sometimes with EU corrupt politician , EU lying non stop , they create open balkans on purpose to create something between get and new Yugoslavia. that's why you don't see anymore EU flags last 10 years in western balkans.russia is getting 18.4 billions every year from EU which with those money supply the war machine in Ukraine and FSB agent in all EU .if war in ukaine will not go well for Russia they will do something in western balkans putting fire in middle of Europe it will be to late for everybody. …… thank you for reading my comment

    February 24, 2024 at 4:41 am

People in Serbia do not see that the EU is willing to accept new members and since the EU supports certain political figures and holds certain standards regarding the certain questions, people also see the great hipocracy which is strongly lowering the pro EU mood among the common people.
The EU and US are complaining about the Russian influence. Well its not such a big deal, they dont have to interfere at all, they re just letting the West being disshonest, as it is.
    Simple.

  23. @NinjaHelpdesk

    February 24, 2024 at 4:41 am

I don’t think the cultural or geographic arguments are at all persuasive. Continental Europe already contains substantial Muslim populations, including the nations of the western Balkans. Arguing against Turkey and the Balkans joining the EU on cultural grounds suggest an absurd level of fear and insecurity in existing EU members confidence in their own cultural values. Surely, given the size disparities (447 million vs 84 million) it should be Turkey worrying about how European/Christian values will influence its own population, rather then the reverse?

Looked at in economic and geo-strategic terms, Turkey’s accession should be a no-brainer. It has a young population, a robust economy (despite current mis-management) and will be an important important regional military and geopolitical player (and buffer state) in coming decades. Despite the EU’s distaste for Erdogan’s capricious authoritarism, this too will pass. For the sake of the future, would be foolish for Europe to spurn Turkey’s advances for too long.

I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and I think EEA is perfect for this region, enjoying benefits like EU members, but without vote in Brussels, what is actually double good in our case 😁

However, EU enlargement is/was always political, some member countries are there undeserved, or we deserved to be in already, depends of a point of view. Personally, I am for EU because freedom of movement, calculating days, border controls are annoying, also, way easier for every business if there are no borders

  29. @blackgate4735

    February 24, 2024 at 4:41 am

Whatever it takes EU must accept rest of the Balkans. It’s clear that Ukraine won’t join any time soon, because of huge problems in economy and the problems with corruption, and I am not even talking about the war. Can’t say anything about Moldova, but if Balkan states not join, other powers will replace EU, and it’s gonna bring some problems even to the existence of the union itself

  30. @edincisic1302

    February 24, 2024 at 4:41 am

what is the purpose of joinig a club like open Balkan wich has such a low join criteria?

  31. @spartanconscience2693

    February 24, 2024 at 4:41 am

Why would Serbia care about joining the EU and euro? Its probably because its politicians will see their personal bank accounts increase ten fold. They know Serbia will be worse off joining. Look at Greece. Nothing has changed and its worse off.
Serbia can do far better staying independent and open direct trade with China. How else is Europe wealthy? Let the Chinese build military bases there also. Stick up your middle finger to the EU. It is the worse aggressor on this planet and you will be under the servitude of the US government. Do not listen to your politicians. Anyone who does is just as corrupt and thus its best to avoid them and ridicule them. If they sell out their country then they will easily betray you also.

Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia,Bosnia Herzegovina and Albania are part of open Balkan that means already opposing EU. It's a small union that will be larger in near future if Turkey, Romania,Bulgaria and Slovenia join open Balkans.
EU is no more wanted in the Western Balkans.

  37. @AVIANADRAG

    February 24, 2024 at 4:41 am

I think it would be better to have automatic accession and THEN talk about rule of law, economics Schengen AFTER they’re already in that way all these countries could get in and have at least an economic safeguard from Russia. Of course they still need to follow western values but just get them in the door and clean them up after
