Interview with Jonathan Bartley: https://youtu.be/iLXcI-yHuPU

The German Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens) currently looks like they could win the German Federal elections later this year. This is significantly more than many other green parties have been able to achieve around the world, so we wanted to find out what other parties can learn from the Germans. In this video we examine their policies and figure out exactly how green the German Greens really are.

I really like the German Greens' policies overall as Finnish Green Liberal, but with whole love, their nuclear energy policy is super myopic and counterintuitive against climate change.

Also, strong deterrence is the only solution against imperialist countries like China, and Russia – or even against the United States in case they apply some form of imperialistic and militaristic doctrine like they did with their fake war on terror.

Therefore I hope German Greens and European leaders overall would have a more hawkish view on defensive military aid. For example, anti-air, anti-tank and anti-drone weapons together with surveillance and attack drones can do a lot to deter the enemy from invading, because they are in most cases cheap to make, can be used to destroy military pieces worth millions of dollars apiece, are easy to use, fast to train on and could be sent really fast to any country that has been invaded or is in risk of invasion, without a real risk of major escalation because of the defensive nature of these types of weapons. They are also much easier to mass produce, maintain, replace and stockpile, than tanks and planes.

To mitigate the risk of a crisis like Ukraine, we need to either sell or donate those weapons way beforehand to any friendly country that we trust enough. Also, our military doctrine needs to enforce the principle of the instant armament of the defending side of the conflict, and that doctrine needs to be known by our enemies to be ALWAYS enforced, so they won't try anything stupid as Russia did with Ukraine.

open migration, shuting down nuclear power plants! what a fool. Russia want that most of Europe shut down their nuclear power plants. plus this large migration has cause violence against German people in their own home land. There are many incidence of rape of German women by migrants mobs. your people have to bear the cost of your morality. I, a common citizen of india, thousands of kilometres away understand this, why can't German people and German government understand this.

Hasn't germany closed all nuclear already? I think they ought to closed coal before however and switch heating and stoves and such from gas to electricity/ district heating.

They are not successful they are just brainless, shuting down nuclear plants, because nucealr powerplant produce too much waste, suting down burning power plants because they are too harmfull to inviorment, shuting down solar and wind power because batteries are posisones to the nature. WTF is supost to power germany?

  9. @Joe-jc5ol

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

I thought the title of the video was a joke. The German Green Party is burning more coal than any other administration. They shut down existing nuclear reactors that are already paid for(in terms of money and Carbon footprint) to burn the most toxic and lethal fuel on earth…

As an environmentalist we should aim to not learn from the German Green Party. Germany has high per capita emissions for an European country. They have a heavy reliance on coal which is not found in France, Belgium, the UK, Spain, Norway, Sweden, etc. It should be noted that a year on Germany is still destroying ancient towns to mine lignite coal — with the Greens in power.

  22. @Kenajabam

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

There are actually some flaws in the video. The take that the Greens are very "nuancec" in terms of immigration is not explained. All points in the video are pro-immigration. Only because they use the word integration, which isn't right or anti-immigration in any way. That's a very weird argumentation.

Also it seems like NATO and the UN got confused? China and Russia have obviously no veto in NATO…

Other than that it's a good video.

  23. @Lilifors

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

    This aged bad.
Also contains many errors, taken from a program, that is outdated.
The greens not only want to tax high income, they also want to take capital from people who have a house or other values with a capital-tax. The definition of who is a high income earner is also kept very vague, to tax more people.
It is also a lie, that the greens think the private sector can solve the climate dilemma. They think their party can do it, if the green party owns part of the means of production and with heavy tax penalties on companies, who do not comply.
Their party structure and program resembles those of the sovjet bolshevik and german nazi party NSDAP.
They are a communist party with a fascistic view, when it comes to the private market.

Hi Canadian here, I noticed that you put the Canadian Green Party as a successful Green Party. I’d argue against that, the Canadian Green Party is a mess they’ve lost several seats in recent elections have several issues of mismanagement. They currently do not have an official party leader since the last election in fall of 2021

  25. @lordsleepyhead

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

I think you confused the NATO with the UN when you talked about China and Russia having a veto in NATO. Which of course they don't. A pretty important mistake, maybe you could correct it with an asterisk at the relevant part of the video.

  26. @666rsrs

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

the parts about foreign policy are completely inaccurate. Apart from the obvious confusion of NATO and the UN, the Greens, while holding the foreign ministry, were leading Germany to the first war since 1945 in Kosovo, so they definitely can't be called pacifist at least since 1998. Since then they pretty much supported every military deployment that Germany has taken part in. Also there is no passage of unilaterally ending the deployment of US nuclear arms to Germany in the Green manifesto. The greens opposition to nuclear arms is basically a "would be pretty nice if there weren't any nuclear arms some time in the future". With regards to the military the Greens are much less reluctant to oppose armed drones than for example the SPD. It's pretty safe to say that since their pacifist anti-NATO beginnings the Greens have done a complete 180 towards a pretty hawkish foreign policy with strong emphasis on human rights and promoting democracy. It's not without reason that nowadays the Greens are more often accused to be neocon warmongers than being dirty hippies when it comes to foreign policy.

  27. @lostonearth7856

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

Tbh, many of the policy goals from the Greens aren't bad and hard to disagree on like their proposed immigration policy as they aren't a bad idea.

The only issues I do have are the 2% defence spending for NATO and their views on Nuclear power.

  28. @scotandiamapping4549

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

Well here in Australia (where the first green party came about) our green party is gaining a lot of traction, and looking to throw off the 2-party balance that we have now between Labour (Centre-Left) and the Liberal-National Coalition (Centre-right) and has pretty much become the main party for Left-wing ideas especially Socialism. And in the last federal election (2019) it got %10.40 of the popular vote.

Environmental policy is important, but as a German patriot I would never vote for our Greens for the following reasons:
    – The greens sympathize for communism
    – The greens praise the bombings of German cities and the killing of their civilians in WW2
    – The greens are against patriotism
    – The greens supports the antifa
    – Their former chancellor candidate Baerbock (now Foreign Minister) has less knowledge of politics
    – The greens want to legalise p*dophilia
    – The greens want to abolish the German flag

  36. @zsomborszarka2616

A green party (or person) that is planning to shutdown all the nuclear reactors, is not green at all. Period. Favoring coal against nuclear is ridiculous to say the least. Thinking you can change to solar and wind is not just too optimistic, but crazy! It's like saying, that we will change to fusion reactors before the end of 2030… maybe in 2100 and there is a chance that it will won't happen at all. If i was to invest into coal, than i would say this is the best party of them all! However if you want to slowdown global warming, than stay away from these guys!!!

It explains a lot that the general IQ and scientific understanding have gone down since people vote on the greens. What a fucking waste of air and taxpayers' money. Shutting down the nuclear power plants and replacing them with coal shows that they are completely waco.

  44. @thetrashmaster1352

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

Weird how Green parties are so different country to country. In Australia, they are pro-multiculturalism, pro-high speed rail and 100% anti coal. Meanwhile In the UK, the Greens are anti-high speed rail and in Germany they are pro-assimilation, and to an extent pro-coal.

I guess that means if one of them wins they can all just copy that party's homework.

  45. @Mr.Nichan

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

Their green party's policy of stopping arms exports to minimize migration crises would be a problem for our bipartisanly supported military industrial complex in the U.S., which seems to run on the principle that it can make the most money and, as Trump put it, "jobs, jobs, jobs" by selling military equipment to almost every country in the world, getting the U.S. government to buy from it to send weapons to sides in wars that create instability, and then convincing the U.S. government it needs to buy even more weapons from it to stay powerful in this dangerous world full of all the other countries and non-state actors they armed.

  46. @canoguz8172

    February 25, 2024 at 4:17 am

The German Greens have a weird take on immigration. In 2020, the Green Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg supported a law prohibiting niqabs and burqas and the new law is in effect. German Greens don't seem anti-racist to me.

  47. @dainiuscalnaris6959

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that’s not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can’t wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!
