The EU needs to woo India and invest there. India is closer to Europe, and is a geopolitical adversary of the CCP, if we invest heavily in India in return for military arrangements we may have a chance.

The EU would be foolish not to protect itself. It should see the direction that China's leadership is going (and it mirrors Putin's Russia). The theory that when trade crosses borders armies and missiles do not was a great utopian one that has proven only to work with peer countries of similar values & compatible political systems. Neither Russia nor China have any intent to reform towards those as was hoped in the early 90's and they've both been made far more powerful via trade. Relationships should be made reciprocal at this point by legal requirement. I.e. China can't have any news campaigns in Europe unless the same unfettered access is available to Europeans. Similarly travel should be restricted until political rights open up, etc. Progress should still be open, but slowed to a crawl making them work far far harder for it. Yes this will impact wealth, but it is inevitable anyway. The pursuit of diversified trading relationships in the East and Latin America should be maximized. New strategies should be developed to assist Africa even if small and centralized to a few Nations there at first.

The EU should absolutely protect its businesses, though I’m not sure if security concerns belong in a trade agreement explicitly.

Human rights abuses are a major problems but there is not much Europe can do directly, they could encourage more liberalization which would indirectly apply pressure to stop these abuses, but the choices are either cut itself out and do nothing, or try to work some tool in that it can use.

The EU's mistake is thinking it is politically and economically stronger than China and is able to dictate its terms to China. Lithuania tried to show off by taking on China and is now suffering. Germany has learned its lessons and is more diplomatic with China as it realizes that without China, its massive auto industry would collapse and would result in massive social unrest rippling throughout other sectors of the economy.

To answer your question. I think the EU should move away from economic relations with China. The Authoritain regime proves time and time again that it cannot be trusted, not to mention the horrible treatment of its citizents.
I know this would impact our quality of life to a certain extent, but I'd rather live with less material posetions and have my hands clean, then knowing my confort comes from the denegrating labour of other.
I ask those of you who care to avoid chinese products as much as possible. Yes they are cheaper but they are also many times of lesser quality. Free yourself from this cruelty. You don't need it.

The EU is nothing more than a vassal state of the US. It takes orders from the US, no matter how unreasonable and stupid. It is so spineless that it dares not do anything when the US is caught using EU members to spy on fellow EU members.

It's funny how people are telling the EU to crack down on China. Meanwhile most of those people will not even check if the goods they buy comes from China. By doing so they support the Chinese economy and increase the EU dependency on China. Same goes for companies, most don't like having a relationship with China yet only few are taking action. Perhaps the people in the EU should be the ones to work on reducing the EU dependency on China first, so the EU can later stand their ground against China with more ease and confidence.

  11. @Phoenix_BD

    February 28, 2024 at 4:06 am

I think the EU should be more defensive and show that China can't just do what they want.

The EU should decouple from China eventually. Perhaps not now but should move in that direction as the CCP is nothing short of a mafia organization holding the Chinese people hostage.

Basically China systematically steals IP for europe, undermines the EU to its own ends and constantly violates human rights in a way completely antithetical to anything resembling european values, all the while operating a large trade surplus with the EU…

it's actually pretty simple, not in terms of what all the options are, and what the implications of each is… but of all the options one is pretty obviously the best. and that's joining the US in reaching out to, and prioritizing other nations in the region

Every human are entitled to human rights. To see how the world refuses to talk about China's human rights violations is just sad

  25. @domenicobartoccioni1610

    February 28, 2024 at 4:06 am

EU should start to do its own business and protect its own market first. EU needs a fair deal with china, nothing about it has been seen so far, EU also needs to bring back to its own borders those key industries that had been outsourced to china so far

  26. @dekaaizer2550

    February 28, 2024 at 4:06 am

Yes, we as the west should go beat up China, we are always right and always have the moral highground don't worry. China is imprisoning its own people (in it own borders) we would never violate human rights (except everything before 1970 and the middle east). Oh and yes China may have a lower pollution rate per capita and don't have near,y as much lifestyle pollution but whatever they are evil.

  27. @alexcadream3097

    February 28, 2024 at 4:06 am

The US, the Commonwealth of Nations and the EU should reduce its reliance on China, Chinese goods or companies

  28. @siyabongamchunu4342

    February 28, 2024 at 4:06 am

I honestly respect that China doesn't tell other countries what they must do. If only Europe and the United States adopted the same principles…

  29. @ilivgur

    February 28, 2024 at 4:06 am

The EU should indeed hold China into account, much more than it does now. Though the EU should not entrench and become protectionist, that's the easy way and benefits no one really. Instead it should encourage its domestic market and enterprises; the EU can do so much more than it does now – it has over a 100 telecom companies while the US and China have 2-3 companies between them, the banking system is all over the place, and so much more. Furthermore, the EU should offer an alternative to China to developing nations. There so much finger-wagging you can do without offering a real alternative to investments, development, etc. Humanitarian aid is fine and dandy but China is snapping parcels of land, resources, and business left-and-right while the EU concentrates on sending food and medicine.
