EU Vaccine Rollout: Britain Outpaces Europe When it Comes to COVID Vaccinations – TLDR News

COVID Bar Chart Visualisation: https://youtu.be/Q7qszQBsAo8

In December, Britain approved the Pfizer vaccine and began immunising their citizens – the first country in the world to do so. The rest of Europe was slightly behind, with the EU slower to approve any of the vaccines. However, to this day the EU’s vaccine rollout continues to be slow. So in this video we explain why the EU’s still vaccinated fewer people than the UK & what this means for Europe.

7:05 most of the "delay" in Europe vaccination campaign is due to Astra Zeneca being put in "quaranteen" after some suspicious deaths and severe collateral effects. This forced most European countries to relay more on the availability of Pfeizer as Moderna was not available untill recently and Johnson probably not even approved, while Sputnik never got a green light, despite some countries, like "Republic of San Marino" sourcing it.
Obviously as Astra Zeneca is a British company, it was never an option to wait for safety records in the UK and because this was what Europe was doing, the UK suddenly found itself with a lot of doses to vaccinate its own population, while other countries was in cue for Pfeizer and Moderna to fill the gap.
If you check the records of vaccine in UK compared to Europe you will se they were overwhelmly AZ, while the opposite was true for continental Europe.

I think the central purchasing by Brussels hurt the rollout. To many contacts and meetings to be fast. But the disinformation about astra zenica also slowed things down to the degree that vaccines ran out of date. Politics and healthcare should not be mixed

  15. @yanchen9701

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

Another important fact is that, the UK and USA manufacturer their own vaccine ,while EU relies on the UK and USA’s supply of vaccine, hence, EU certainly needs to wait …

  20. @montelatici

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

It is much simpler. The EU exported nearly half of the vaccine produced in the EU to othet countries, including the UK instead of keeping all vaccine produced in the EU for EU member states like the US did.

The difference in approval times had nothing to do with the slower vaccination rate. Had the EU not shown generosity and kept vaccine produced in the EU for itself, like the US did, the UK would have not been able to implement a vaccination program. 66% of the doses used in the UK were exported to the UK from the EU.

In Germany we've an advantage as far as the virus is concerned: it looks at the watch – and as soon as it's 21.00 hours: it comes and stayes till 5 in the morning! Unique! And the whole day people are streaming in the streets – and no virus. Because it looks at the watch: "Oh, it's no time yet!" And people believe it! It's absolutely amazing!

  23. @dariuszdudka1991

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

Well, Pole here. Currently, we have only vaccinated for very two million after two months. This is nearly incomparable to Lithuania, which has only two million but gave nearly one million doses, or Russia which vaccinated for over 15 million, leave alone Britain and USA which surprisingly impressed with the rapid speed of vaccination. The fact that we're even behind Russia and Britain which are not EU members is shocking.

  24. @breaddboy

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

Honestly prefer the slower response. The vaccine seems to be working in the uk but an almost mandatory vaccination of a pretty tame virus that could mutate and ruin all progress so far seems irresponsible. The vaccine roll out in the uk feels like a propoganda stunt or a cash grab. To me at least.

I'll trust the vaccine when governments I trust begin to widely use them. For anyone under 45 and healthy there's no real risk as far as I've seen, I'd much rather just get natural antibodies. But I doubt they would alow people to intentionally be infected.

I understand that you have to narrow down information to fit into a video but why has the Jeremy Hunt map missing the data for Denmark made the cut? It is completely irrelevent considering you have ommited so many interesting facts that could have been included in this video (for example the list of EU countries that were already negotiating their own vaccine procurement before the EU commission strongarmed them into the EU procurement). Furthermore, it is stupidly hypocritcal to point out a missing data on Jeremy Hunt's map considering half of the charts and diagrams in this video have mistakes….

  35. @verbekejules

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

Can you make a video about the fact that U.K. and U.S.A keep their manufactured vaccines for themselves, while Europe is responsible for the rest of the world!

  36. @adrianbollmann2088

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

Watching this one month later, my par3nts das that about 1,6 million people are vaccinated in Germany. Looking at the numbers from the Thumbnail that would mean that 140.000 people have been vaccinated in one month while the US is doing like 2 million a day. A shout out to the government: great job guys! (sarcasm) Living in Germany and trying to get a vaccine sucks.

  39. @Volheim212

    February 29, 2024 at 4:33 am

I would to some degree say that it is EU fault but their job is mainly to secure vaccine doses. the main problem is the member stats did not have a system in place to rollout large amounts of vaccines like us in Denmark which is a system we have had for a long time to keep track of who needs vaccines and who does not. the rest of EU had not thought that far a head so they had to build up a system to handle these large amounts of vaccines. I personaly believe that vaccines that just set in coolers (like in french) should be given to other countries who is able to give these shots to EU citizens until the countries have a system that can be use to give vaccines in a effiecent way. Like in Denmark we can´t get our hands on enough vaccines!

The UK government is like a broken watch that points to the correct time 2x a day, like when it came to vaccines. At any other time it totally misleads you.

The EU, on the other hand, is like a sun dial. Sometimes you have to wait a couple of days for the sun to come out, but then it's not all that bad.

Let's face it, Vaccine Rollout was a loss for the EU, it does not make me doubt that the EU is still the right choice, we will see how the rest of the next few decades unfolds but I have no doubt that the EU will accomplish great things by uniting the power of European nations.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that’s not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can’t wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!
