Like black markets, it's not whether it's happening, it's whether it's significant enough to make a difference on the battlefield. Your observation that Russia is not deploying its airforce in Ukraine is the answer. Sanctions aren't perfect, but they're working well enough at very little expense to the Western Alliance.

  11. @clarissagafoor5222

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

What on earth do western countries' sanctions have to do with central Asia? It`s in the name! Most countries outside the EU/UK/USA 'block' are very ambivalent concerning the whole Russia Ukraine issue – there was a certain amount of sympathy towards Ukraine at the start but that`s pretty much faded by now!

Almost all russian statistics at 2014 where drawn to appear more effective than it is.
Now authoritarian goverment forces statistics agency drawn required numbers, because of wartime. It is totaly made up, but international financial agencies keep up referencing it.

The sanctions were always bound to fail. You simply can't shut out a resource powerhouse like Russia from the world economy. Not to mention these sanctions are not UN approved so no-western countries have no reason to apply them.

As a person from Poland I am sad that countries from Central Asia are helping Russian. I can even understand it – maybe they are reliant on trading with them…

BUT it's not only a war over some small land. It's about survival of Ukrainian nation. Russia is a nazist country? Why? First of all is a regime in which there is no freedom of thought. Secondly of all they want to take freedom from.other countries. Moreover they are imperialist's who want to have more lands. What were also Nazis doing…. Killing Jews and other nationalities… Bucza, other genocides of Ukrainian people…..killing children and civilians; Russian soldiers raping women;Destroying Ukrainian infrastracture, civilian facilites. Taking Ukrainian children from the mothers to make them Russian.. Bringing colonists from Russia to make Ukrainian lands Russian…and must be stopped and all of the motherfuckers hanged in the Court Of Justice.

And yeah: it's understandable for me that some countries from Central Asia is trading with Russia. Many of this countries are poor and dependent on trade with Russia. But why would you help such country? Nazist country who commits atrocities to Ukrainian's. Would you help Hitler in 1942 in killing Jews? For money? How can you help such countey for money?
That only shows that there is no justice in the world. And unfortunately people sometimes need to fight for their dignity freedom and their families.
Poland will support Ukrainians untill last Russian soldier will leave Ukraine. Because they are defending my homeland, my friends and my family. Because they are defending democracy and Western values.

It's so sad to see that so many Russians became simple barbarians animals without dignity. Raping women and children. Killing civilians. Destroying monuments. And Wagner Group and Kadyrovs are the most disgusting thing that I ever saw…..nazis who like killing others.

OPEC, SCO , BRICS, African Union and south american nations all trading with russia

  19. @Jess-pm5zf

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

This just proves that partnership with Russia are deals with the devil. Ukrainians are being killed by the Russian invaders and the Russian economy is fueling these killings. Secondary sanctions NOW.

  20. @assertivekarma1909

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Reputations are being defined, more cooperation among allies, more prudence with others, including secondary sanctions. Stop strengthening adversaries, more internal investments, better public oversight & accountability.

  21. @maskyb3509

Why will we support sanctions. West are the ones who needs a spanking.

  22. @yagsipcc287

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Most of the world does not care and is getting what it wants and needs, also Russia has built up around sanctions of years now this is why they failed and anyone with two brain cells saw this coming (this is why the West is ruining itself) cant see past anything they do.

  23. @denismorgan9742

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

These countries helping Russia can also be sanctioned.

  24. @Teapode

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Kazakhstan import from EU and US was around 4,5 bilion in 2019. Up 80% = 3,6 bilion.
Armenia import from EU and US was 0,85 bilions in 2018. Up 80% = 0,68 bilions
Russia import from EU, US, Japan was 140 bilions in 2019. Down 50% = 70 bilions.
So in total evasion of all countries is around 5-10% of Russias prewar imports

  25. @iancoles1349

Yes anything for a buck that lot

  26. @lours6993

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Ironic to see a UK minister interviewed on this subject. The number of sanctioned individuals by the UK is at 10% of those sanctioned by the EU and Londongrad continues to be the offshore bank of Putin's oligarchs. How about some secondary sanctions there?

  27. @aj3314

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Now let's sanction the central asian countries

So than they will evade by buying from Middle East

    And than sanction them

And they go and buy for example Turkey

    And than sanction Turkey

    And the cycle goes on

What it would do long term, it would show how hypocritical the West is, and unreliable, and probably limit the future for them to do business with the world

  28. @wlaisuwon

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Creating more sanction on top of an existing sanction that looped holes were found is not going to solve the issue. As with there will always be more of it.

Ultimately when countries economically co-dependent on each other's trading and logistics. They must trade, and telling central Asia to suck it and obey will not help. It simply incentivize all parties to be ever more creative in trade practices.

Economic wars are fought with Economics, and legal sanction are a legal tool not economic ones.

  29. @paxdriver

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Maybe the Russian migrants all have clothes that need washing? Not very convincing evidence without Blinkin saying what scheme specifically is being exploited. Seems more likely to me that smuggling chips like Russia would be good at (especially counterfeit goods as their friendly neighbour China is best at…) before they'd buy appliance to strip for parts.

Why wouldn't they just fill the machines with chips instead of moving boatloads of metal drums? That makes no sense at all lol

  30. @metanoian965

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

    Russia does NOT evade sanctions.
Follow the money. Those outsider, West psychopaths, who see profits = $$$ _ will do business with the devil.
They see $$$ doing business with Russia. And ? The West narcissists worship $$$ and believe strongly in Hypocritical Acts out sight of the gullible West dumb masses.
Business is business. Money makes the world go around as every West Government knows well.

  31. @PavlosPapageorgiou

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

We have a sanctions minister?? One obvious point here is that Russia is large. Sanctions are going to do a lot less damage to Russia than to Iran or N. Korea. They had an import substitution program before the war that was hard to sustain politically, but presumably now it's an imperative. For example Russia had nearly completed its civilian jet liner, MC21, with western avionics and engines and now they've had to substitute Russian systems that were on the back burner so to speak. The jet is going into service, but a few years late. Something similar plays out with military tech. Russia has massive production of boring equipment like artillery and tanks, but the newest T14 tanks and Su57 jets are only seen in small numbers. It does look like Russia is smuggling components while trying to ramp up its own production.

  32. @davidkeller6282

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

The US canโ€™t keep expelling people from the US financial system or they will create an alternative. Then the dollar loses its power.

  33. @user-uq2ht7ff5n

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

thanks to the sanctions, we watch YouTube in Russia without advertising, it's a little funny how many companies just changed their names, I issued a Chinese card for payment and also spent $ 15 to travel to Belarus for a visa card, now the factories that assembled European cars are now assembling Chinese ones, but I think. WHICH is very good that Russia does not sell Boeings and Airbuses, we will build our own planes

  34. @nton8057

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Central asian companies could simply claim they sold stuff to central asian citizens and that those citizens did what they want with them. "including driving to russia and with the stuff they sold to them ".

A russian agent residing in kazakstan could simply buy 40 washing machines as kazak citizen load them on a big truck and travel to russia with them. As long as your not selling them directly to russian companies it dosnt violate sanctions

  35. @Jrobidy2

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

On a positive note, this is strengthening the Kazakโ€™s & Uzbekโ€™s making them stronger & harder for Russia to eventually invade

  39. @yerbool

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

USA has already prohibited Central Asian countries to trade with Iran. But offered nothing in return. Now by blocking a trade with Russia, who is there to trade with? China? And if it starts a war with Taiwan? So instead of just sucking oil and gas from this region, why someone tells me what's in it for Central Asia?

  40. @idraote

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

    Secondary sanctions all the way.

  41. @GeneralGayJay

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Logical move would be to put Kyrgistan and Armenia on sanctions or simply forbid them to transport these goods to Russia.

  42. @Orange_Laowai

    March 1, 2024 at 1:24 pm

Western corporations are helping Russia bypass sanctions, just look at any video out of Russia. Half of the companies such as Pepsi just rebranded to more obscure brands.

  43. @selcovoilucian8253
