You guys should have 2 or 3 years down the line recap what you said, what was expected, and what happened. That would be a super awesome feature. I watched this episode ~9 months ago and rewatched it right now. Wondering was will happen in winter 2024. Sort of diary, what will happen if…

Austria has gas storage of 95TWh and is close to 80% now. Don’t know where you get your data from.

And it's the UK 🇬🇧 at war with Russia 🇷🇺 but using Ukraine to fight it so expect to run out when the EU falls apart because of it.

well then theres only one alternative thats to open up the coal mines and in this day and age you cant tell me they cant come up with someway of burning coal cleanly because if they can send a man to the moon of invent electric cars then surly they can burn coal using the same method on a car its called a catalytic converter because i cant see this country running on gas for much longer so come on all you scientific nerds you know you can burn coal cleanly so get off your back sides and start thinking.

Ursula running on private jets…having a private chef ready at all times in her office… living as a bureaucratical parasite her whole life on my tax money, wants to tell me to use cold water in the winter because I'm too greedy. Interesting stuff.

It is a little ironic listening to this Brit explaining how (and I am paraphrasing) mainland Europeans may have to freeze in the upcoming winter as they potentially have to cut energy usage by 15 per cent. When you compare Germany with the UK for example, in Germany most flats/houses are so well isolated that energy costs are always lower than in the UK. When I was living in London, it was normal for people to wear their jackets/jumpers inside their houses in winter because of poor isolation and high energy prices (this was a few years ago already). When I was living in Hamburg, all flats were so well isolated that you didn't have to heat much at all. And I never wore a jacket or jumper in winter when inside a flat. That means, that if people have to cut their energy usage by 15 per cent in Germany in the upcoming winter, they may be equally as cold as Brits have always been in their homes. They will definitely not be colder than what I experienced in a British home in winter in the past.

7:02 No, there really isn't a "clear paralell" between those two vastly different situations. What does Greece wanting to be bailed out of their debt have anything to do with the current issue of figuring out the best way to circumvent Russian energy dependency?
I am not sure whether it is because this is a UK-based channel, but I've noticed in the past how the channel is very eager to declare Germany as responsible/at fault for everything that's going on in the EU, and as if they are behaving in a bullying manner. They are simply not. Please be more fact-based and less opinionated in your videos (that claim to be explanatory and not pushing a preferred narrative).

I don't think you realise how ready most mainland Europeans are to take a hit (read: be cold this winter) if it means supporting Ukraine, and rejecting Putin.
The governments just reiterate what we – the demos – are feeling. No one has Jimmy Carter in mind, I can assure you.

In many countries, a very large component of gas consumption is power generation. Anything that can be done to substitute different forms of large scale power generation (such as Germany is doing with trying to restart some of its coal plants), the easier it will be to redirect those gas supplies for commercial and residential use. Also, asking Biden to do more to enable exportation of LNG from the US, where it is in abundance, over to Europe would help alleviate the situation.

Restraint, but mostly cutting waste. How often have I seen idiots opening the window because they've heated too much!

As a guy from Poland all of this just seems so surreal and downright unbelievable, that the rest of Europe really didn't think that Putin would cut off the gas, their gas storage should be nearly full, why do they not move away from Russia's influence? They're literally a terrorist country, and yet "the democratic and free world" tries to do business with them.
"Free world" my ass.

He’ll of a lot of sacrifices for a country I’d more or less never heard of last year. Politicians seem to think their mandate is global in nature these days, no sense of the fact that their job is to manage the welfare of their own country. Bad things will come of this.

We rallied behind changes during WW2 with rationing and planting your own food. We have Kennedy's famous "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." It can be done but it's obvious going to require some leadership and effort
