A lively debate is likely underway at the US central bank.

The financial world is watching as Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke and the other policymakers discuss how best to prepare the markets for the slimming down of their stimulus programme.

All the indications are that they will wait for further data on how the US economy is recovering, before curtailing their purchase of 85 billion dollars worth of bonds each month.

Not much in the way of policy change is expected, but analysts said Fed officials may tweak their statement issued after the two-day meeting ends on Wednesday to hint at some tapering of bond buying if the economy continues to grow.
