Since german demographics points to a gerontocratic future, and both Greens and FDP were voted for by the young voters in majority, it is no surprise that they want the voting age to go down. An alternative might be to give parents extra votes for their children, or give citizenship to migrants easier (as they are usually younger too; but those are often more conservative for religious reasons and traditional conservative family values).

On BBC news when asking the public about what they wanted from the election (this was pre-election) she said, "I want change, but not too much." She may have been speaking for the majority because that is what she has got. A bit more to the left but essentially minor tweeks to policy not so surprising since the last coalition was "Schwarz-rot Koalition"

It does one's heart good to see a system that actually functions. Politics should be about compromise & cooperation, and it seems that, although we've definitely shifted left, there's a reasonable measure of balance here… as well as necessary focus on what's really important: the people.

Wow, this actually sounds really good. Generous social and climate policy with a more fiscally neoliberal influence to keep spending in check but still with their hearts in the right place. I think this could be very successful

Lol, this coalition is one crisis away from completely falling apart at the hinges and leading to another election they don’t want; if for nothing else not wanting to risk a resurgent AfD.

Prediction: the ‘traffic light coalition’ falls apart in 90 days or whenever Putin decides to invade the Donbass (more like reinforce it with actual Russian regulars) and they fail to agree on what to do as far as sanctions and Nord Stream 2; which ever comes first.

  13. @BorealColdstone

    March 2, 2024 at 9:10 pm

Cringe Greens. Russia and China are far better than the EU. EU "democracy" means having politicians bought by the rich aka a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. Corparations buying politicians is completely legal by the mechanisms of campaign financing and lobbying. As someone considered far left im starting to prefer Angela Merkel now.

  14. @protoretro1290

    March 2, 2024 at 9:10 pm

The good thing is that at least right now. The coalition appears to be functioning well. Compromising on differences, keeping each other in check, with no party getting preferential favour over another and No one holding each other at ransom.

So far so good. They appear to be working together as one collective, which is how they should be. The key question is will it continue? Will the cooperation and compromise between the coalition members persist?

That is the question on everyone's lips

  15. @Captain-Axeman

I don't think Children should be able to vote. 16th is far too young and it would only lead to political parties trying to get too the youth in school more and probably would lead too more political splitting.

So, it's clear I am 19th years old. But if i could decide i wouldn't vote until i was out of school.

I expected that it will be this coalition immediately without much doubt. I think they started with working together very early, while a small part of the public still thought it is unclear who will be Bundeskanzler. I mean political work, discussions not only for the purpose to publish something.

3:10 thats just a lie. Nuclear Power is by far the most subsidized and most expensive form of creating energie. If the same amount of subzidization would go to other forms of energie creation it wouldnt cost a cent more then now.

  24. @matrix0897

What i found always a bit difficult to understand is that the greens didnt seem to be purely green in their heart.
While being „green“ supposed to be a neutral state which could dock onto any form of politics
It was always a greenwashed version of the SPD for the greens im Germany.
Thats why i dont think they are green at their heart, when being green is not at the core of everything they do.

  28. @Favoxhille

    March 2, 2024 at 9:10 pm

They are gonna make France richer if they back down from nuclear energy, also will be intersting seeing how other EU nations will play the energy game as the EU may soon force everyone to crack down on emissions, so it's likely that someone will take initiative and invest heavily in nuclear and then sell it to other EU countries, also because I don't think it's a good idea to rely so much on Russia…
