The EU and North Korea have a difficult relationship. The EU believes in free trade and stoping autocrats; North Korea… well… doesn’t. That’s meant that the EU has struggled to handle North Korea, with some saying that the relationship has fundamentally failed. In this video, we explain how the two sides interact, why some say it’s failed & the future of EU NK relations.

For the future: I trust you guys and want you to tell me not just about the things I'm already interested in, or that the news says I should be interested in… But also angles and issues that go under the radar but are – in your view – important to know about.

How about this aproach, the EU realized that outside interference will only ever do 2 things. Money for Rockets or money for Nuclear …. you cant improve Humanrights under a Dictator, we ve seen this time and time and time again …

If someone keeps lying in your face why would you want to carry on talking? At some point you have to say your words are useless and you need to show actions. EU approach was absolutely right. Talks are going nowhere it's just waste of time. Time and energy better spent with other things.

honestly i don't really see it as an eu concern, like they done deals, north korea broke those deals, put economic pressure, they continued, just like every form of appeasement or sanction, you can either put up or shut up, eu isn't willing to fight over the human rights abuses so they don't have the power to stop them, simple as that.

and frankly the eu can't really just attack another nation on the other side of the planet, if they did for some reason decide to invade china would certainly intervene like they did in the cold war unless a deal was made beforehand which how things are going now would never happen, so the eu should just focus on european affairs, they're a free trade block not the police of the world, we criticise the USA for being interventionist so why push the EU to become so?

If the EU starts acting as a nation it would save the US a lot of money as we could take back all the embassies of all these European nations. We would no longer have to provide security for all the embassies in Washington, DC.
Additionally, we would no longer have to provide aid or military assistance to the smaller European countries, since they are technically now one large country.
I can not mentally imagine the scenario where France and Germany could defend Europe from Russia, but if they want to try, go for it. The cost savings to the U.S. would be substantial. Not sure the U.S. sells enough to France and Germany to justify their major investments in Europe. This compounds with the fact that one of the U.S. parties, seem to increasingly be anti-European and more pro-third world countries. This demographic will continue in the U.S. as immigration continues to come from countries that blame Europe for their current problems do to their colonial past.
Long term the EU is in U.S. eyes a great chance to shift a large economic and military burden to French and German tax payers and extricate the U.S. from a potential flashpoint with Russia. That would give the U.S. more autonomy in it’s action if there were aggression. Washington could decide they do not wish to engage militarily if the Eastern flank of Europe was threatened, maybe just sanctions.

Frances vision of the EU as a country would make the U.S. more independent and not so obligated as a partner to assist. Not sure I can imagine France and Germany repulsing a Russian invasion of Estonia by themselves, even if Croatia and Denmark sent troops. Militarily France and Germany do not have the populations willing to make the sacrifices of toe to toe combat with Russia.

North Korea is basically a country sized concentration camp, so what's the point of even talking to them about human rights. They respect no rules but force

  12. @gabrielebeimler133

    March 2, 2024 at 2:45 am

the stories about DPRK prisons are about as credible as the lies about a unicorn, haircuts and a dozen supposedly executed high profile people that reappeared shortly after in tv broadcasts watching a play together with their "murderer".
it's funny how selective the accounts are taken from defectors when those who want to go back and tell their story are being threatened by south korean secret police while telling the right stories publicly will grant them a good fortune.

    March 2, 2024 at 2:45 am

The US has nuclear ICBMs to stop other nuclear powers from invading them, this is seen as common sense. North Korea does the same thing, suddenly it's insane? How does this make sense to people?

  16. @eldrago19

    March 2, 2024 at 2:45 am

The problem is that the actions of NATO member states in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lybia seems to have been designed to send a message to North Korea that the only way they can guarantee they won't be invaded is to develop nuclear weapons.

  23. @kangaroo1888

    March 2, 2024 at 2:45 am

Bit of a diversion as this is an attempt not to improve human rights in North Korea or else where for that matter but aa attempt to get Europe to follow Us anti China campaign . If one is talking about humane rights Europe rest of the world should be putting pressure on the U.S as a first step .

  24. @MrUnwichtig109

    March 2, 2024 at 2:45 am

your video is dangerously misinforming people!!

the reason industrialized nations such as the US and the EU have stopped negotioating with north korea is because north korea is literally only draining out money out of contracts which they break anyways

for decades the north korean government follows a cycle of threaten, get money, try to negotiate, threaten, get money, ….
compelte timewaste to talk to them

  25. @janbananberg357

    March 2, 2024 at 2:45 am

The only end to the North Korean dictatorship will come through violence.

  26. @janbananberg357

North Korea WILL NOT negotiate away any nukes. They like to hint that they will but their nukes are the only thing keeping kim jong-un alive, atleast in their view.
