Patreon – www.patreon.com/tldrnewseu
Recently the French Parliament signed off on an age verification bill, which attempts to prevent under-18s from viewing adult content. The problem is that like the UK’s attempts to do similar things in 2019, there are a whole bunch of issues with the plan. In this video, we explain what the French are trying to achieve and if their plans can overcome the security, censorship and privacy concerns.

The video title is misleading – France is not banning porn but just trying to implement a system that can make sure that the porn viewers actually are 18 or older.
@alirazi3028
March 3, 2024 at 1:15 am
This porn ban is the best thing for VPN services. It's going to be hilarious when the analysts come out and say no one is watching porn in France and the French politicians are proud of themselves for preventing us from looking at the naughty stuff. Meanwhile, the VPN services will see a big jump in their traffic right under the politicians’ noses. 😂

yes yes because we all know people under 18 never ever ever heard about sex. But when you're 18 suddenly you can be kicked from your home, homeless, have 10 kids, no problem. Such extremism.

AWWW BOOOHOOO YOU DIDN'T MAKE MUCH MONEY… so you're making the videos for money, not to entertain people, not because you like doing it… that's your priority. So you're gonna make content which makes you money, regardless of the truth…? Money makes people lie.

@BessrDe
March 3, 2024 at 1:15 am
I have an idea for an age verification system, that works online without violating your privacy. It has to be a hardware solution (token), like an NFC Chip or something like a Nubi key. Those hardware tokens must be produced and registered to a central server by the government. Every website can use their software system to check if the USB Key / NFC chip is legit.
Now the key element to the system: Every adult citizen has the right to get such a hardware token. But when the citizen goes to the "Department of age verification tokens" he / she will only registered for the fact that he got his token. But there should no record of which specific token he got. Like literally a small bucket full of tokens and the citizen can choose a random one.
Thus the age verification token is truly private, because there ist no connection between the token and the person.
The only problem I haven't solved yet is what happens when you loose your token. Getting a new one with no questions asked contains the risk that the first token was handed over to a minor für 10 bucks. De-Activating the lost token is not possible, because there is no record which specific token a person has lost.

BANS should be restricted to stuff like videos featuring children being abused or animals beaten to death. for material that do not feature underage people or do not involve the infliction of long-term or fatal injury, there are RESTRICTION on what age-range can access it. (I'd vote for a 30-year minimum, myself, as 20-somethings are routinely proven to be the most moronically childish creatures on the planet.) (edited. sorry for confusion)
