I don't think the Europeans have a separate vision on China, but much more on America.

Several clowns of this round table did not seem to be aware of their own contradictions. They applauded von Der Leyen's speech which proposes "not to decouple from China," unlike "some have suggested." The "some" here was a tacit reference to those who follow Washington's desire to "decouple" from China — in other words, to isolate China, rather than have relations with China. In that same speech, which took place prior to Macron's and her own visit to China, von Der Leyen said that Europe must "de-risk" *their relations with China. Therefore, ultimately, Macron's comments parallel what von Der Leyen said in her speech, not contradict it, which is why it made sense that the duo visited China at the same time. Indeed, they were not communicating two different things, like some of the clown guests of this show implied. If anything, their protests are more evidence that EU and UK are basically *vassal states of Washington.

Macron's comment that Europe should stay clear of the China-U.S. tensions over Taiwan appears to be his way of presenting the first concrete way of showing EU's "autonomy" from Washington. He recognizes that a war in the South China Sea region would not be in much of Europe's interest. Not choosing sides on this issue presumably allows Europe to pursue its own interest by not offending either Beijing or Washington, while not contributing to the escalation of a war over Taiwan, which would have far-reaching consequences for global commerce. Yet, there are European heads who protest this, precisely because it seems to suggest some degree of autonomy from Washington.

The host of this show displayed ignorance by describing Macron's China visit as a "China-friendly visit." Nope, it was in fact a "French-friendly," if not also "EU-friendly" visit [as evidenced by von Der Leyen's presence]. Macron's visit was to promote France's and EU's interest first and foremost, not to tickle Beijing. However, nobody in their right mind will expect the Chinese to want to meet with Macron without getting something beneficial in return. In simple terms, to characterize Macron's visit as a one-sided "China-friendly visit" is incredibly simplistic, if not plainly dumb.

President Macron is the only respectable leader from the EU. He is accurately aware of France and the EU's interests.
He does want economic and security autonomy for the EU without any interference from the other global powers (US and China)
He has ambition for the EU, and the other EU leaders only see world geopolitics through the prism of the US interests

When speaker uses the world “we”, who is “we”? All European excluding eastern Slavs, sovereign entities, political party, non-for-profit, charter member, or a trade union? Can you speak on behalf of France? Super confusing..

Emmanuel Macron is 100% right; we're US followers – we lost our sovereignty after WWII. However, some Europeans pretend to be blind; others are corrupt and protect their US wages.
