Last week, Moldova’s pro-Western government collapsed over its apparent mishandling of the cost of living crisis. However, some have accused Russia of staging a coup in the country and tension is brewing. So what exactly is happening in Moldova right now?

I’m not trying to take any position on this, but I don’t support manipulation and this seems to me an example of media manipulating information. You make it seem like Sergei Lavrov just threatened to interfere militarily in Moldova as they did in Ukraine but the truth is things are not just like that. What he said is and I quote "Now they are looking to Moldova to fill this role (referring yo Ukraine), first and foremost, because they succeeded in putting into power in absolutely non democratic ways a president that falls for NATO. She (referring to Sandu) is a Romanian citizen, she is ready to unite with Romania and is basically ready for anything"

  16. @Waldemarvonanhalt

    March 4, 2024 at 6:17 pm

I feel like Moldova (the region of Bessarabia seized from Romania by the Soviets under threat of war) could neutralize any potential Russian threat by re-uniting with Romania, since there were successful post-Soviet referenda in both countries where the people agreed they wanted to be reunited and reaffirmed that Moldovans and Romanians are one and the same, Romanians. That way, they would immediately be under NATO protection.

  18. @me5774

Ukrainian source is a whole bunch of lies.
I am Romanian, but think about this, in that Moldova more than half of the people are russians and the whole country, with no means to be self sufficient live at the merci of Russia. Would that be the right think for them to want to be part of EU?? EU is looking for profit not liabilities. Their government is an immature gov. They cut the hands that are feeding them. THINK AGAIN!!! The west is not going to feed them and if you do not pay you share to the Cesar, you get in the same boat with the Greeks.. OH dear, how stupid same people are. GOD help them.

Of course, I won’t say for sure, but my mother, she lives in Moldova, got worried that they closed the flight industry .. And I thought: “wow, how the government loves its people, which doesn’t even allow those who understand its plans, leave the country on time. this is understandable, because according to the documents, the Moldovans themselves can be counted on the fingers ….

  26. @marshallgrey2159

    March 4, 2024 at 6:17 pm

Pitiful Pootang and his half baked cronies and puppets trying their best to try and take what they can well maybe we should have let them try sooner as Russia alone with their shady acts have strengthen the west and NATO ten fold and have made all Russians absolutely despised by the world let alone destroyed his country and rolling the Russian economy back 30 years we never needed a plan how to beat Russia because pootang has already done the job for NATO destroyed themselves how Russian that really is

  28. @seanhunt138

    March 4, 2024 at 6:17 pm

Moldovia needs to form a new major political party to compete with the pro Russian "bloc of communist and socialist party" they should encourage unions to form a more credible and democratic labour party. Moldovia needs two legitimate parties not controlled by Russia to ensure stability and hold each over accountable.

Is a Russian coup of Moldova as horrible as an American coup of Ukraine in 2013, causing the maidan square riots and then civil war… causing the problems we have today?!?!
