Nazi war criminal Erich Priebke, who died last week in Rome, made a video before his death defending his role in the 1944 massacre in Italy during which he killed 335 citizens.

His lawyer released the video on the same day as his funeral was scheduled:

“Of course, it wasn’t possible to disobey,” said Priebke.

“Before starting the retaliation, Schulz told everybody that those were Hitler’s orders, and we had to execute them. Anybody who didn’t want to do that would have had to line up with the victims to be executed, too,” he added.

Priebke has never apologised for the crimes he committed.

After the war, Priebke fled to Argentina, where his wife is now buried. The country has refused to allow his body to return for burial next to her. His hometown in Germany would not provide a grave, either, through fear of it becoming a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis.

There were many examples of German officers refusing to carry out killings and, in nearly every case, they were not punished. His actions went against the rules of war at the time and he, as an intelligent man, would have known that. There is no "context" to killing pregnant women and children.

This guy was one of the worst creeps of the lot. He would not have been shot for disobeying orders – there is not a single case of that ever happening.

These are horrible ,unforgivable crimes but there is truth in saying he didn't have a choice.
Disobeying Hitlers orders will get you on the wrong end of a firing squad pretty quick.

Just dig up a hole in the ground and put him there… unmarked with no name or indication he’s buried there. It’s more respect than he offered his victims or the nazis offered any of their millions of victims, for that matter.

In as much as President Barack Obama authorized the extra judicial elimination of Osama Bin Laden and President Donald Trump of Abu Baker Al Baghdadi the Israeli Mossad in the 1960s and 1970s should have tracked down those Nazis that were responsible for the death of thousands of victims during the Holocaust. However the Israeli government at the time was run by the labor party who for some reason were concerned that such would stir up antisemitic sentiment. And other than the prosecution of Adolf Eichmann and a few more were afraid of carrying out such a course of action. A government run by Likud however would have seen this through as they are guided by the principles of Zev Yabotinsky and would have authorized the elimination of hundreds if not thousands of major Nazis war criminals not allowing them to get away having spilled thousands of Jewish blood. Thank you very much and have a great weekend 😊🤗

Sadly he's right all these people that say oh well I would have lined up with the victims and they would have had to shoot me! you don't know what you would have done being a soldier for a government like Nazi Germany or the empire of Japan or the Soviet Union under Stalin you have no idea what you would have done and what you would not have done!

Sadly War is terrible, horrendous, and people can be dragged into these events, caught in that time are the people of that time, and in total War the more so. If you know or have known combatants from these, now more distant or more recent Wars you might get a better insight into the experience, to attempt to apply a set of moral standards that may apply in relatively peaceful times is completely unrealistic. The “standards” in War cannot be bridged by those in peacetime. I would like to say more as there is a lot one could say regarding War, but one would have to write a book

Neo Nazis in Germany and other countries should be identified and eliminated. If there is no one to do it now, then someone should arrange it later.

Eu no lugar de Hitler, sabendo que meus inimigos estavam vindo me buscar (sabe lá Deus se eles me julgariam ou me matariam logo como fizeram com Mussolini), sabendo que meu corpo seria exibido como um excremento pelas ruas, que certamente me torturariam com toda violência, eu me mataria antes. Não discordo. No lugar dele, eu me mataria e mandaria destruírem 100% o meu corpo.

I think most reasonable people understand being an SS captain given an order, but that doesn't discount the fact that Germans hated Jews and most of those killed that day were in fact Jewish. He has no true remorse although I am sure he let time wishfully erase what he really felt at the time.
