Cleared of kidnapping, Cassez back in France

Published

on

http://www.euronews.com/ Florence Cassez, the French woman who has been in prison in Mexico for seven years on a kidnapping conviction, is back in France.

The ruling was overturned on the grounds that her trial was flawed.

The 38-year-old was welcomed off the plane at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport by her mother and others close to her, and by foreign minister Laurent Fabius.

Accompanied on the flight from the Tepepan jail for women by her father and lawyer, she embraced her brother on arrival.

Appearing to be in good health, among the first remarks she made to the media were: “I believe I’ve been judged innocent. The Supreme Court said I was immediately free to go, without conditions… and I was always free in my head.”

President François Hollande’s office said he would meet Florence Cassez and her family personally tomorrow evening.

Her treatment strained ties between France and Mexico.

@londonane Bullshit, she is at least an accomplice and at most a ruthless kidnapper/torturer. Her victims include an 11yr old kid. She is a criminal and belongs in prison! Her lawyers and France took advantage of a corrupt judicial system. Shame fon France!!!

1-Cassez had not been allowed to access a defense lawyer until several days after her arrest
2- witnesses who had identified Cassez as a member of the kidnapping gang in court depositions, had initially told police that they did not recognize Cassez. They lied, not the best way to get justice.

Well, let's put it that way, her only fault was to have chosen the wrong boyfriend and broke up with him at the wrong time.
7 years for that is enough, isn't it ?!!

She got treated like a celebrity on her arrival in France. Lets hope you right and she gets what she deserves which is Incarceration.

There is a MAJOR missunderstanding about this case. She hasn't been cleared of kidnapping, she was liberated because there was irregularities in the process that led to her incarceration, she was not given immediate diplomatic assistance and there were many other irregularities in the case according to mexican law, thus the whole process and sentence was declared invalid because it violated her human right of a fair trial.

She might still be guilty of kidnapping.

euronews U talk – U-talk tackles sexism

Published

on

“I am Ana from Lisbon. I would like to know how can we put an end to sexism and to the prevailing social differences between men and women which is an ongoing problem in the world?”

To answer Ana’s question U-talk asked Belgian feminist and member of the ‘Dare to be feminist’ collective Laure Juteau to comment:

“Sexism is all about putting people in boxes as soon as we meet them, labelled either ‘man’ or ‘woman’. As soon as they deviate from that, even a little, they are quickly reminded to get back into line and play their role.
