euronews science – French sound alpine glacier alarm

Published

on

http://www.euronews.net/ Around the globe, in all latitudes, at all altitudes, glaciers are receding and disappearing at a rapid pace. At a speed that often exceeds even the most alarmist previsions made a few years ago. This tendency has been recently confirmed by a study of the Alps carried out by researchers of the University of Savoie, located near Chambery.

When we talk about melting glaciers and global warming we often think of faraway polar regions. But here we are in the heart of Europe, close to Mont Blanc, and the surface area of glaciers is shrinking remarkably.

@BigBrotherMateyka dont we have like 5 more years to turn everything around or we'll go past the point of no return. we've only done nothing in the last 5 years , politicians in europe just created a system where u could buy co2 rights if ure own country didnt meet the standards from another country making it into a financial product. and tried to force it on the world… check up on kyoto protocol… wich is basicly bullshit , in stead of actually trying to decrease the polution. were screwed.

"This trend risks worsening in the future if the climatic conditions of the planet do not change."

This should be a general warning to all of humanity (as if there weren't enough for us provided for by science) as a call to arms to do something to reverse this effect, but it seems painfully clear to me that we have no interest in saving ourselves at the expense of our frivolities or a change in lifestyles. Instead, we're playing Russian roulette with the planet's ecological future.

Or at least, so you've read on some website with a preconceived notion that global warming is a hoax… right?

euronews U talk – U-talk tackles sexism

Published

on

“I am Ana from Lisbon. I would like to know how can we put an end to sexism and to the prevailing social differences between men and women which is an ongoing problem in the world?”

To answer Ana’s question U-talk asked Belgian feminist and member of the ‘Dare to be feminist’ collective Laure Juteau to comment:

“Sexism is all about putting people in boxes as soon as we meet them, labelled either ‘man’ or ‘woman’. As soon as they deviate from that, even a little, they are quickly reminded to get back into line and play their role.
