When Macron first announced the so-called European Political Community a couple of months ago, it was met with widespread scepticism. However, its first meeting last week went remarkably well. Is this the new supergroup of Europe or just another doomed political experiment?

This is all about UK inclusion. Nothing else. Get lost!
I voted to leave and I don't regret it.

There is already a multispeed Europe. Some are outside the Euro and Schengen for example. Some are not NATO members.

The EU is a failure seeing the 95 million citizens living in poverty , and the unnecessary unauthorised immigration that is allowed to continue

I love how France, a completely bankrupt moral and useless state who haven't been relevant for 2 centuries except for plundering African states are trying to carve our a moral position against the US.

I like the idea a lot. I don‘t view vow it as a tier to the EU but rather a plattform for European Countries. I believe there‘ll be states that don’t want to be a part of the EU but would like to collaberate and share information in certain areas.

All in all, the EPC is a good idea. The Achilles heel of the EU has always been its relentless march towards a United States of Europe – something for which it has rarely sought permission, and which has usually been rejected by the electorate whenever it has. If the EU can get its head around the fact that the citizens of many countries don't want to see their nations turned into glorified provinces, then it might have a chance of creating something stable and enduring. A multispeed approach is almost certainly the way to go, but people (including many on this channel) need to move away from the notion that a United States of Europe is somehow inevitable or even desirable, because it isn't, and nothing would trash it quicker than the sense that it was being steamrollered through against the wishes of ordinary people. It will probably be the case that many countries, including the likes of the UK, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Greece and maybe even Ireland, choose to stay forever in an outer tier. And that should be fine. Perfection (even if only imagined) can often be the enemy of the good. Also, we need to understand that many countries may wish to "join the EU" for simple transactional or geopolitical reasons, rather than because they have any principled enthusiasm for the project, and that their subsequent membership might be unstable or even challenging as a consequence. Flexibility is the key.

How big does the Poundland Napoleon want his empire to be? I assume he wants a bigger European empire after the utter collapse of France's influence in Africa over the past year and its replacement by…… the Russian mercenary corporation know as the Wagner Group. As a recent and fairly frequent visitor to Francophone Africa, I have seen more Wagner people that I have seen French military. Wagner are also taking over from the UN in many paces too – which is perhaps understandable because at least Wagner do something for the money they are paid (even if criminal), while the UN is utterly useless.

Why is the french flag red white and black? Is it just a darker shade of blue to the Union Flag and EU flag?

  23. @TraumatisedTyrone

    March 5, 2024 at 2:28 am

    The real question is:
Is this a 7D chess move by Macron to make people forget about the European Patent Convention(also called the EPC) and the associated European Patent Org(a non-EU institution)?

Considering that unitary, EU-wide patents were launched this year, this could just be a way of co-opting the acronym, and thereby sidelining München's, and by extention Germany's, control of IP policy in Europe.

  24. @8hq28

These stupid french they also want to ,,do not antagonise putin,, ffffk. If it will be a multi layer eu i will flee to USA there all states are equal…fk this stupid idea…EU for all europeans…the french are no more europeans then others.Stupid Macron…

  25. @penzorphallos3199

Tbf to the Balkans, it definitely was a mistake for eu to somehow instantly integrate countries like romania or Bulgaria, which still have big internal unresolved issues such as corruption, mafia, border and ethnic disputes. And western Europe not entirely clean, already had some of these. So adding more of these issues definitely scares eu populations and officials.

Western Europe is hit by unfair competition hitting lower jobs and eastern Europe and Balkans are hit by a huge brain drain, not to mention raising their cost of living because of high euro currency rates… If you want it or not 2 speed eu is already in effect.

  26. @LCTesla

Europe should form a fascist union and obliterate all economic and military opposition.

I disagree with Macron. Bring into the EU all countries that want to be part of it as long they are legit honest operators. Macron's idea reeks of disguised imperialism, with a "better" nation cores surrounded by "lesser" nations. Its snobish. Typical snobbism of a rich boy neoliberal.

  28. @fredrikh9299

Anti government and anti EU/NATO people here in Czech Republic always say that today government is doing nothing and should be removed, but as a Czech, I am really happy that so many important events are happening now in my country, we are finally slowly returning to where we were before WWII and we can change something, it's better to be in center of it and be able to change something than play alone like those ani EU people want.
