In the last few years, the European Union has been struggling to define its relationship with China. On the one hand, China is the EU’s largest trading partner, but on the other, China carries obvious geopolitical risks. In this video, we take a look at how Europe’s attitude to China has changed overtime, the EU’s New China Policy and how this policy may change in the future.

As the US implodes and becomes more and more inward facing and self-isolating, it would be in the EU's best interest to maintain good relations with the rest of the world. The US is already doing a great job at pushing Russia into China's arms.

Great Britain should get some money from their king to repay damages to the source of that money and then stop current theft like from Venezuela's gold and the start a different system of government. Maybe the help will be forthcoming.

Chinese here, lived abroad (the US, the UK, France) for over a decade. Don't want to write a diatribe here, I'll keep it short: get your shit together Europeans, it will be in your own best interests to diversify your trade and political partners.

Through so vague a word like de-risking, I could well imagine how divided European countries are on China and how uncertain they are about the trajectory would look like.

I think the current aproach might be the best one. The EU has been very dependent on the US for a long time. Europe needs to reassert itself has a key global player, maintaining a good relationship with Bejing and Washington would be a valid route. The increasing tension between the USA and China should be used has a opportunity to push Europe into global prominace in case things go south between the former countries.

Unfortunately, you are mispronouncing von der Leyen's surname throughout the video. It's [ˈʊʁzula fɔn deːɐ̯ ˈlaɪən], "ey" becomes "aɪ", like "i" in price or time.
You routinely butcher the pronunciation of names in less known languages, but this is German, quite known language and easy to more or less pronounce properly by an English speaker. However, no one in your team thought about even consulting Wiki on the pronunciation.
Please do better in the future. Otherwise it is quite disrespectful and detrimental to your image as a professional site.

The thing is that most of French compagnies has been relocated to China, in addition of that, most of young Europeans are lazy and does not value productive work, science and engineering. They are more interested by e-commerce by selling clothes from Turkia or China in order to get rich quickly …, this new policy will prevent the collapse of EU economy but they can do better by encouraging young people for productive work, reindustrialization of Europe, and tax some of the products which are imported from China by individuals to protect EU compagnies.

The question shouldn't be what's the EU's China policy, but who's really in charge in Europe. Whether you like her or not, but Angela Merkel was the true leader of Europe for years. Now it seems like EU has so many voices that it's really unclear what's the policy.

  15. @Jim54_

The EU needs to woo India and invest there. India is closer to Europe, and is a geopolitical adversary of the CCP. If we invest heavily in India in return for military arrangements, we may have a chance.

Let me translate this "de-risking" plan of the EU: It dangles a carrot of economic growth in front of China, to convince them to behave and be nice. If China doesn't behave, it would most likely lead to WW3.

  24. @hkfoo3333

Europeans are like pet dogs. They always listen to Americans, and they dare not say anything when they are beaten by Americans. Just like the Nord Stream pipeline was bombed by US, What do you think Chinese people will think of Europeans? After all, China people are still dignified people.

EU is going to be another superpower in the world. With the military failure of Russian in Ukraine, EU is no longer facing a military foe. In this case, some EU leaders want to build a strategic triangle between china and the US to expand EU's power and benefits.

Since China seems to want to make import from Japan become smaller , France or the European Union instead of Japan should be able to do new export to China that corresponds to today's export from Japan to China . 🤔

  39. @DavidJohnson-dc8lu

    March 5, 2024 at 10:51 pm

US decoupling from China. More like stuck with China. Imports and Exports with China and US was at a massive $690 billion breaking previous records. The balance of power is falling into China’s hands and they know it. They also know Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America can unit, trade together and ignore the West. The West needs China for value and China just needs the West to keep on devaluing themselves with wars, printed money and debt.

  40. @chuckmaddison2924

    March 5, 2024 at 10:51 pm

I blame business for looking at a cheap alternative to local labour.
    Big mistake, wasn't it.
But with a little pain, it can be turned back.
We the West created everything and gave it to china.

  42. @montyollie

    March 5, 2024 at 10:51 pm

In what world do you think America gives a shit who trades with China??? Everything and I mean EVERYTHING in the US is made in China. They are likely China's biggest trading partner. They don't give a flying fuck what the EU is doing.

  43. @whilewecan

    March 5, 2024 at 10:51 pm

In front of Axis (Russia, China, India, Africa, Brazil etc), G7 must unite. We have to face reality that another cold war had started. WEST will prevail eventually. West can go without Russia and China, but they can't in my opinion. Freedom is key for Innovation and New Ideas.
