Well, in this video, we’re going to be taking a look at the ongoing and unlikely spat between the two countries over Taiwan, how China’s somewhat heavy-handed response might have backfired.

Erm… I REALLY don't understand how people in Europe don't understand this.

So if China were to say Belfast should belong to Republic of Ireland or if China bypass London to establish an embassy in Scotland then I am sure London will have something to say about that.

What some countries LOVE doing is to stir up this ambiguity that People's Republic of China and the Republic of China have.

The truth is that the Taiwan government, especially if the KMT is in charge, would love to reunify with China as the ruling government if they are more powerful and capable. The reason they are playing victim is because they can no longer compete with the Communists.

Lithuania is an idiot for getting involved with a temporal spat and losing their permanent opportunities. People are calling them brave and have principles but what improvements was made? Is Taiwan even better off by them doing this?

Yeah, even Blinken had to go over to China the other week to sooth things out. Europe did nothing to help. Lithuania literally stood up, had its face ripped off and nothing happened to China.

I am lithuanian. And I work with China manufacturers directly, and I had some issues making payments to Chinese manufacturer's bank account. I had some problems with my bussines with China, but I support Lithuanian goverbnment with the need to help free and democratic Taiwan and Taiwan people to stay with democratic values they cultivate now. And if China acts like it wants on global politics, terrorises small states, try to influece them by politic and economic levers, then China must be punished in no time. Then China's government is not so different from Putins regime. They use terroristic methods, missuse their influence and power as Putin always do.

Being a Lithuanian who knows its history well, LR and Taiwan are in a similar place. We live next to a powder keg called Russia, meanwhile Taiwan is living next to China, who seems dumber than a box of shit. We have survived the 90's, when Russia pulled a similar stunt after we left the USSR. We can live just fine without them. China has what, exactly? Cheap labor, and food. Lithuania is a keystone for trade to other baltic nations and the rest of Europe, we make lazers and food, we invest into education (there has now been a new reform on education for that), we are at least treating our populace like humans and not making them rot in concentration camps. Sanctions will not do much to stop us, if anything, China shot itself in the foot, we own the closest (to them) ice free port (Klaipėda) that allows access to the baltic sea and nations like denmark, sweden and so on. In my opinion, we should continue suporting Taiwan, no matter what. We were bullied in the past, we dont want to see a repeat of that again. If only other thought the same. Atleast I understand the government and why they are doing this. Sadly, many people in LR couldnt place themselves in their shoes, or feel empathy, for that matter (as if we could do better, we would propobaly fuck up as soon as we tried anything due to a lack of understanding on how this works. Its not like a random city dweller could rule a nation, they'd blow through all the budget imedeatly, or a random villager, since he would try to cut corners everywhere or just focus too much on agroculture). I, ironicaly, got sick with covid, but I would have gotten sick even faster if I was with my aunt when quarantine was going on. Most young people tho are fine with it, like with Ukraine.

You are right to point out history as one of the basis of this in eastern EU. We are pretty suspicious of commies and definitely stand with Taiwan. Sadly given China's economic power its hard politically to move on this sentiment.

Lith was in the right. The CCP had no right to dictate to other countries what countries can or cannot recognize. This is what happen when a country is being run by an insane emperor. China in n oway or shape a super power. Its' like comparing a little fish to a big fish. It's laughable to think that China can take on the US or any western country for that matter. What China is is a paper dragon and nothing more. China is just a wannabe .Countries who needs to show off its military might is a sign of an insecure country.

    Tell the Chinese to F.O.

The world is tired of Chinese projects to undermine free countries.

Chinese manufactures electronics are a threat to the free world. Chinese components are already being removed from free world internet networks.

Chinese arrogance will result in their removal from the world economy and it can't be too soon.

All fun and well, but the overwhelming majority of European players refuse to follow "little" Lithuania. Please don't confuse Europe as this homogenous bloc of unanimous friends. Germany, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, Spain immediately looked the other way. None of these countries would sacrifice their billion dollar investments for a gnat like Lithuania, regardless of it being part of EU…

You brushed past the importance of semi-conductor chips that are produced by tsmc and other Taiwanese companies. They are necessary for "smart munitions" and are the true driving force behind the US saying they will defend Taiwanese sovereignty. If Lithuania also produces these essential semi-conductors then they instantly become even more secure in their borders against an expansionist Russia. It may be unpopular as a policy but it's fucking genius.

  29. @davidschaftenaar6530

    March 6, 2024 at 4:56 am

China overestimates how important it is to the world economy and especially the West. China is primarily a source of relatively low-wage, relatively unskilled labor; It is non-essential to the West and could quite feasibly be replaced by a number of other developing and middle-income countries with a half-decent education system, political stability and reasonably well developed infrastructure. The Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Thailand — just to name a few examples. Taiwan, meanwhile, is as absolutely vital to the West as the West is to Taiwan. They design and produce high-end semiconductors, using EUV lithography machines designed and built by the West, and then sell most of those goods back to the West. That's a closed loop and it's one upon which the entire world relies for it's computing components. If push comes to shove: The West should stand with Taiwan. Prior to the 1970's other countries filled the role China plays in the world economy today (Japan, for instance) and others could well do so again.

I think all of the Western world needs to urgently start questining the One China policy, given the genocide that has been going on in Xinjiang (based on China's inherently xenophobic stance), and given the massive oppression of rights and freedoms in Hong Kong, who are not a democratic nation anymore.
