For decades people have been suggesting an EU army, a military force covering the entire bloc. However, it seems that the war in Ukraine has suddenly made this more likely, with even Germany keener. So in this video, we explain the idea & if it’s likely.

If the generals will be as successful in battle as the politicians of Brussels are in politics and economics, then you don't need an army but gravediggers. Europe has made enemies all over the world and now it will add another enemy in the form of the USA? Wisdom comes from the west…

NATIONAL CONTROL!!! We won't have any control if we continue being disunited, other big players will run us over. EU is already irrelevant on a world stage. I think no European military took an active role (outside of logistics) in taking care of the Huthi problem. Why would anyone take us seriously if we cannot act like a superpower. Europe is done. I should have left for Canada when I had a chance.

Idk how most Americans feel, but I would love it if Europe had a proper military that could rival America. The problem with relying on America is when our military goes in they're gonna do America stuff, and then people get mad about that. It's like "You can't ask for USM help and then get shocked we did some crazy USM shit. Either do it yourself, or stop being surprised." Lol

Most European military should be stationed in Scandinavia, the Baltics, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Spain. That way the continent will be protected against all possible future threats. Frontex should be the border defense force. Europe should have its Navy, Land Force and an Air Force. A rapid deployment strike force similar to the US Marines should exist as well. Certainly the EU is more than capable to build such structures and it will cost a lot less to the tax payers because all weapons systems and procurement will be streamlined.

Europe needs an army. European values are different from American values. The reason why American values reign supreme in our world is because they can back them up with their massive army.

  19. @user-iz3dq5sz3h

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

I cannot think of anything more humiliating for a soldier than having his coffin draped in an eu flag.

  20. @user-iz3dq5sz3h

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

As no one is talking about an eu navy or eu airforce it is obvious the eu army cannot operate outside eu borders. So this is only going to be used inside eu borders. Putting down pro democracy uprisings in eu member states.

  21. @user-iz3dq5sz3h

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

You got the reason wrong for why it did not happen. You blame NATO already up and running but the real reason is no other eu state trusts the french on defence.
They all know that this is just France trying to get everyone else to pay so france can look important.

  22. @user-iz3dq5sz3h

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

There is only one job for an eu army and that job is to carry out the one thing a NATO army cannot and will not do. That is to put down pro democracy uprisings within eu member states. Good look Europeans.

  23. @user-iz3dq5sz3h

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

Since the end of the communism the secret agenda of france, Germany and the eu has been to bring Russia into some kind of special relationship with the eu. This would provide the eu with the two things it lacks, energy security and military clout.
The blueprint for doing this was to be the coal and steal agreement that saw the birth of todays eu. Instead of coal and steel, read oil and gas. Create a physical network of pipelines that builds mutual reliance upon each other that therefore leads to slowly building further, firmer ties.

In order to facilitate this move and reassure the Russians the eu states have to disconnect from NATO, Hense the move to an eu defence force minus the US, UK and Canada.

Germany , France and the commission made a serious strategic mistake as putin is not playing their game. The whole plan now blown apart by Russian aggression. Initially france and Germany hoped it would be over quickly. Germany first response was 5000 helmets, macron just wanted to talk to putin. They have had to be dragged into abandoning their former plan and made to get on side.

The eu, Germany and France have humiliated themselves now the eastern member states have sussed them out. The moral authority has shifted away from France and Germany.
The eu, France and Germany have nowhere to go.

  25. @alextabet9247

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

Not only can a European army function, it is a necessity. With the US and Europe having increasingly divergent interests, NATO no longer makes sense. The EU needs to creat its own army with the same guiding principles as NATO. In other words, the EU military must be purely a defensive force to ensure that no country is forced into fighting a belligerent war it does not support. Under the premise that an attack on one member is an attack on all the members, it is perfectly reasonable for the EU army to strike back.

  26. @ludovic2431

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

The French approach is clear. They did not always take the right decisions ( decisions sometimes oppositie to their own ideas) but it is clear that an European army in the long term is inevitable. More effective and also cheaper ( we also have to deal with a lot of other, expensive issues). We have to look after ourselves. We have to create several armies like the Romans had, logically combining the forces of European states ( based on geography, culture, investment etc.). Territorial forces can be retained. If the English do not want to participate, fine they don't. Bad luck for them. Missing the boat again.

Who would be against a European army? its not the 1940s anymore Europeans arent as barbaric anymore. it would be much better than the status quo American controlled NATO which is currently causing conflicts in Ukraine.

The U.S and EU can still fight side by side on certain conflicts. each respective army can take care of their own regional conflicts and us American taxpayers dont have to pay to defend a country in Eastern Europe.

  33. @kevinbergin9971

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

Will the U.S. have to pay for this too.

  34. @79stpa67

I think the EU can form an army, the embryo of the European armed forces.

  35. @robertsanders7060

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

Clearly this will never work, the French would never send a single French soldier in harm's way to save hundreds of non-French. We would get many Srebrenica type situations with the French only caring about the French. Europe needs America.

  36. @carnivaltym

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

That's exactly what the EU should do – and start voting for the EU President etc by universal suffrage.

  37. @Oriental-whispers

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

Yes but now os tome to expand the European army 100 times more ! And form new allies with yet others countries. … the situation is a dark one, and there are others ready to harm the worm globally. This is the time to start seriously arming personell and expand the military body and weaponry.

  38. @robinsonray6766

  39. @ohjonny95

    March 6, 2024 at 11:03 am

More synchronization is always beneficial. No matter in which category. When it comes to military, it would be especially good because the tech/knowledge exchange would probably elevate EU to produce the most advanced stuff on a world wide scale.

All that would just be for defense though. We don't want to be engaged in a war anyways

Earlier this week, a trade war broke about between the US and Canada. But the EU, a more Canada-aligned ally, appears to have a pretty muted response so far. So, in this video, we’re taking a look at the escalating US-Canada trade war, how it’s pushing Canada towards the EU and how the EU is responding.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that’s not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can’t wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!
