The Polish government is facing a scandal involving allegations of selling visas for bribes at its consulates, causing potential damage to the ruling Law and Justice party. The party, known for its anti-immigration stance, now also faces charges of corruption and compromising its tough immigration image. But how will this affect the October Polish general election?

It is strange that such a scandal broke out just before the elections.
Coincidence, or in swimming for the election?

this scandal is not even a top 5 issue with PiS 🙁

  8. @kpc211

    March 6, 2024 at 10:14 pm

    It's a 2 week old topic, but I will clarify some things…
It's obvious that this scandal didn't affect the PiS voters, for two reasons. Firstly – if you don't live in Poland, you probably don't know how isolated are the media bubbles over here. PiS voters only follow the national and pro-government (de facto government- or church-sponsored) media. Which – same as the government – never admitted this was an actual scandal, they claim those were barely 250 visas issued, not 250 thousand. They will not listen to the pro-opposition media because they think they are sponsored by the opposition parties (mainly by Tusk) and Germany and they don't consider them trustworthy at all.
The second reason is that the PiS voters, staying in that pro-PiS anti-opposition bubble, simply have no other choice. For them not voting for PiS is voting for Tusk (even if they vote for something else than Tusk's party, it seems that if PiS fails, they will form a big coalition lead by PO and Tusk), and that's something they want to avoid at all costs. Because of how the PiS propaganda in the national and pro-government media presents Tusk as the nation's traitor.
Next, for now, according to the polls, it's practically unlikely that PiS will be able to rule alone after the elections. And practically all parties are so strongly against them that it's no way they would form a coalition with PiS. There are practically two possible results. Either the majority of the seats will belong to all parties but PiS and Confederation (so called democratic opposition) – they are agreed to form a coalition, which they claim would stay at least until they "tidy up" after PiS. Or the majority will be for PiS and Confederation, and this would be a stalemate situation. Confederation and PiS are close to each other in the ideological terms, they are both conservative, don't like migrants, LGBT and alike – but are completely opposite to each other in terms of economics. Another option would be a coalition of Confederation with the democratic opposition – but that, for the majority, also needs the Left (being a part of the democratic opposition) – and the Left and Confederation are kinda complete political enemies. That's even a worse stalemate.
The third thing I would like to mention is that Confederation is not at all a new political force in Poland. Their former leader, Janusz Korwin-Mikke, has been present in the Polish politics since 1989, and is known for some very controversial quotes in the European Parliament. They have always been popular among young voters, though now they gained more popularity by:
    1. hiding Janusz Korwin-Mikke and other controversial politicians,
    2. hiding their conservative ideological agenda and building their campaign upon their economic postulates,
    3. having young politicians at the lead that can speak well and that are very strong in social media,
    4. PO and Tusk shifting left, so that they they took over some of their voters who like free market and dislike state intervention into the economy.
Practically all other parties say "we will take your money and spend them on the things we think are good for you". Confederation says "we won't take your money and you will be able to spend them on things that you think are good for you". And at least to me (and probably for the party itself too, judging by how their campaign looked like) this is what attracts most voters to them, not the right-wing ideology.

Lol 265 visas made the entire leftist world go crazy against the Polish party that actually is opposed to illegal migration. A few corrupt officials will not change 99.9 percent of the party’ stand on illegal migration. The problem is in France , Germany , Sweden and other European countries, not in Poland. Cheers

  12. @markholland7322

    March 6, 2024 at 10:14 pm

Main problem as always is the urban – rural division and generational division.
If you are unlucky to live in a country where there are more baby boomers than millennials, and more people living in rural villages than in large cities, there is no point in going to vote for the younger generations: the conservatives will win anyway.
And personally I think that these older generations know perfectly well that the politicians they vote for are lying and deceiving them, but they care only for their pensions.

Oof yup, thats pretty much as bad as it gets in terms of hypocrisy. Its insane when voters dont punish this sort of massive failure.

  16. @zeus2zeus2zeus2

    March 6, 2024 at 10:14 pm

another inflated scandal, somehow no one is complaining about the Germans who sponsor illegal immigrants coming to e.g. Italy, but the Germans want to weaken Poland's image so they are making a scandal and this Ukraine, treacherous and has no idea how much they will be exploited by the German government, maybe it will be useful them a bucket of cold water?

it doesnt matter if you believe that non-european immigration is good or not, you should be able to see how bad this situation really is. even if poland was fully prepared to take in all these immigrants, their neighbouring countries may not be able to prepare for the possibility of a large number of these people to appear on their side of the border seemingly out of nowhere, that and the fact that the polish government lied to and manipulated their people, and kept their neighbouring countries and the EU completely in the dark.

as bad as this is politically, let us not forget, yet again the elite are using the desperate masses as political tools for thier own selfish gain. these migrants came through the legal means, via an approved visas. It is not the migrants who should recieve hate, but the politicians who illegally sold the visas

  30. @kamp.1299

    March 6, 2024 at 10:14 pm

Such a pathetic topic. You are talking about a little over 300 visas. Do you know it?

  31. @kamp.1299

    March 6, 2024 at 10:14 pm

This canal is clear antipolonism. "one of the most anti-immigrants governments in EU!? Show me a country in EU which welcomed in XXI more immigrants than Poland.

  32. @shanghaidiscovery2664

    March 6, 2024 at 10:14 pm

This is farcical and ironic on so many levels…. they built a fence on the Belarus border after Belarus actually flew migrants in to send to the EU, and meanwhile, they sold visas knowing full well that they weren't going to be the final destination for most of those migrants and continued to scream their hate towards migrants… All of this in an aging society where their hateful rhetoric works because no one as found a way to explain to the population what the future holds. I saw a quote from Lech Walesa that explains Poland today ""We are entering a very different world. We can no longer look at problems in the same way. I was a worker. For years, I screwed screws. I don't think I've damaged more than two. This was not the case when I was unscrewing. I may have damaged hundreds. That's what's hard, going from one state to another. We need to unscrew what worked before. No one can theorize about this change of world. There is no program," Which leaves those at the extreme to spew their ideas….
