The festival’s mission since 1946 is to promote and draw attention to cinema and films as well as celebrate them on an international scale. This is the world’s most prestigious film festival and usually means invite-only for all celebs, VIPs, film directors, and more involved. The festival is held every year in the Palais de Festivals et des Congres since 1983. A jury is of VIPs in all fields is selected to choose which films will receive a Cannes award. The 2012 Cannes Film Festival has a jury that includes fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier and actress Diane Kruger. The face of this year’s festival is the late glamour girl/actress Marilyn Monroe.

FashionTV has Day 1 of the Cannes Film Festival where Sacha Baron Cohen posed as The Dictator outside his hotel and stole the show by holding a press conference. He also rode a camel down the street. Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” opened the festival and actors like Bruce Willis and Bill Murray made appearances as did the jury for a photocall, flanked by Diane Kruger in a strappy, short Versus dress. Other fashionistas that stood out at opening night includ Eva Longoria in Marchesa and Freida Pinto in Michael Angel.
