you idiots, Trump comment about russia was in the context of before the Ukraine invasion to wake up the NATO members to the russian threat and increase their military spending. Trump was screaming to NATO to increase military spending and to not build more pipelines to russia. They laughed at them then, but no one is laughing now. Trump was right.

What do you mean, NATO has been attacking Russia this whole time.. why don't you observe that? NATO armed nazi of Ukraine who hijacked the government in 2014 trying to bring back Soviet Union through European Union… I don't think when they were corrupting society 100 years ago they were prepared for the internet to reveal all their secrets…

I treat trumps threat to non-paying NATO members as strategic ambiguity, designed to scare these nations to start propping their own militaries up rather than just relying on America for defence.

Macron is panicking. Zelenskyy regime is on its last legs and it will unlikely survive until the end of the year. Well, it's a quote from The Time article. Zelenskyy top advisers say about him: “He deludes himself,” one of his closest aides tells me in frustration. “We’re out of options. We’re not winning. But try telling him that. It is immovable, verging on the messianic.” One Austrian artist was in a similar state in 1945. Zelenskyy "achievements" to date: 500,000 Ukrainians are dead, 3x that mangled and crippled for life, half of Ukraine's population is living as refugees scattered all over Europe and Russia right now, they're drafting women because they've run out of men to kidnap off the streets, gyms and public transport . NYT wrote about these mass kidnappings that were happening only in Zelenskyy Ukraine and Hitler's Germany in 1945 in an article ‘People Snatchers’. You can't rely on cannon fodder kidnapped off the streets, gyms and public transport to hold the ground. These people have zero motivation to die for Zelenskyy . They either surrender or run away at the first opportunity. Almost all trained and motivated Ukrainian soldiers are populating endless cemeteries across Ukraine (some were just cremated or left on the spot not to pay any compensation to their families).

"Public media will only be published in latvian and other european languages, which does not include russian."

What a great way to antagonize the russian speaking population. This will surely not give putin an excuse to organize a seperatist movement and/or invade.

what is is with the eastern europeans and us having to give them a shit ton of money. If they wantead security they should have pushed for a single EU army. They have the right to do whatever they want but that also means they have the right to suffer the consequences of their actions.

We either build a proper type of defense or we do not build it and I do not like these half ass solutions that they are suggesting. Either we create a single EU army that would become a superpower with 2.1 million troops and 350 nuclear warheads or they get occupied by russia.
That is the actual choices they have since with the bottlenecks that having separate armies creates and how the americans are moving closer towards isolationism. Is an obvious warning sign that if they continue on this path they will end up being occupied.

Primarily because the EU will not be able to defend itself against a invasion with the current structure and eastern europe with scandinavia is blocking any progress towards creating a solution. This is the constantly frustrating part strategic autonomy was about the EU being able to defend itself without american support. That way we do not need to worry about what the american election outcome would be but instead having the ability to be able to rely upon ourself.

Yet what did eastern europe do they pushed for further integration with the us supply chain meaning that america can make or break eastern europe. If america ever goes towards isolationism then its game over for them and eastern europe will be occupied again like it was during the cold war. Building up the logistics and production network necessary to be able to sustain a large scale war takes a lot of time and resources. The more resources that is being used the shorter it takes to complete that transformation. No european nation state has those resources but combined we do.

You also forgot one thing Russia could do (which it HAS been doing in Ukraine and Georgia) is to incentivize and support the Russian minorities in specific regions (Ukraine), or minorities that would be tied to Russia (like Abkhazia, South Ossetia in Georgia and Transnistria in Moldova) to "fight for their freedom/rights". The Baltics, specifically Latvia in the South East and Estonia in the East and some coastal pockets with a significant Russian population could be used to destabilize the region by supporting secessionist movements. One more thing that could be used as a way for Russia to destabilize NATO members is their illegal immigrants that escaped Russia in the past few years that left Russia to escape the draft. They could use those immigrants as coverups for Russian sympathizers to destabilize regions (through crime, corruption etc.)… and with the lax and pretty naïve outlook onto immigration (with the exception of some countries), at least in Europe, that would be a very easy and simple way to induce chaos in Europe. It already is influencing many countries already. Serbia for example (country I come from) is witnessing a sharp increase in prices for rent due to large numbers of Russian immigrants seeping into the country.

Russia has another important weapon and that is political manipulation via media and proxy wars, if they can get the Trumps of the world in power, they can afford to have a shitty army.

So the French President is right? And we are all eventually going to die from nukes in the foreseeable future? Is it really the only outcome possible? Is the world over because of Russia now?

  17. @auroraborealis-zm1or

    March 9, 2024 at 1:23 pm

Russia isn't going to attack NATO because she knows that she will be annihilated in a conventional war. Any conventional war between NATO and Russia will develop into a nuclear war as soon as one side starts losing substantial territory and hence the war. The West, especially the EU, should cease frightening us about Russia starting a war because – it isn't going to happen. If people can't understand why this is so, they should think of international affairs in term sof realpolitik.

Congratulations Sweden on joining NATO – you have effectively destroyed your neutral status, and your country in the event of a nuclear war.

there isnt nato russia conflict. IF someone like that happens , do you really bealve china would just watch? and what would natos goal be in war with russia? Is it like germany ww2 scenario? is it regime change , is it full scale invasion. War between russia and nato isnt necessary. Everything can be resolved peacefully without single casultie. Now you fellow europeans if you want to go to war , you go in front lines , even though my coutnry is part of nato i would never support such stupid war which could destroy normal life and milions of lifes. Its just politics in the end

    March 9, 2024 at 1:23 pm

If Russia attacks any NATO country, the whole of NATO will respond; one of the principal reasons they attacked Ukraine was bc thought they might join NATO and they would never get the opportunity to do so again.

What that lady says isn't entirely accurate . With Sweden and Finland now in NATO we have full control of the Baltics . It's not necessary to have a large NATO fleet in the Baltics to have the advantage . Place 100s or thousands of missile systems along the Baltics coast and the Russian Baltics fleet would never get out . The Russian fleet can easily be sunk from land to sea attacks . After all the Baltics has 100s of miles of coastal land where many missile systems can be placed . The Baltics isn't exactly the an open sea like the Atlantics .

  29. @embreis2257

    March 9, 2024 at 1:23 pm

after two years of war in Ukraine it seems not really worth the effort to discuss the outcome of any military confrontation between NATO and ruzzia. that is not important. we all know how that will turn out. when we discuss the possibility of a ruzzia-NATO war all the emphasis should be on the political will to actually fight a war.
the Trump quote at the start made one thing clear: it is not guaranteed NATO will rush to the aid of a member in need. if the US decides not to defend a NATO country under duress from ruzzia, then NATO is effectively dead and useless. sure, the Europeans could help their neighbour on their own. however, once the US failed to help for the first time, all the other members will doubt the usefulness of NATO and start making new arrangements either under the EU umbrella or within a completely new organisation. the US will then get shut out of European defence policy, effectively diminishing US influence in Europe and the wider world as the US won't get any formalised support from Europe in the event of a Chinese aggression towards Taiwan. Trump's mobster move will be self-defeating as the US would have to go alone from then onwards. ruzzia and China will be so thrilled and US global hegemony will soon come to an end.

  30. @alexalys

    March 9, 2024 at 1:23 pm

There are so many ways for russia to test integrity of NATO so you should really take into account a defence threat and possibly to go on war.

You’ve forgotten to mention the possibility to get down aircrafts near in Baltics or to bombard boarder area, etc.

  32. @calumbishop7082

MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction. That is the term used for if a war between Russia (and allies) and NATO where to happen. Due to both blocs nuclear arsenals guaranteeing the destruction of both.

Mad, that is what Putin would have to be in order to start a war with NATO. It would mean his certain death. The thing that many analysts are struggling with is determining if Putin has lost his marbles (through a mixture of old age, rumoured illness, stress and the standard paranoia that dictators have) or if he's playing a 'Nixon' and pretending to irrational and volatile in order to make NATO back down out of fear of provoking him and a nuclear war.
