Have to say really disappointed in Grealish. He’s ruined his career. It was a complete shock to me how little he was played in that last euros. Now he’s barely in the debate, and that’s justified. What a joy to watch he was. One season wonder

    Trippier has to start sorry.

  13. @davd1986

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

The English press keeps ignoring what sort of cupcake draws England have had in the two tournaments that England made the semifinal and final, plus they played at home for almost every match. They are overrated. They have another easy group at this WC. Hope that they get sent home early.

  14. @jaypitchford9497

The fact that foden saka grealish might not get in the squad shows we are one of the best teams depth wise in the world at the minute

  17. @gooey2k

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

So many of the comments here just shows majority of English football fans don't understand the history of international tournaments and the teams that win. Almost no team has won it playing free flowing attacking football with absolute abandon. Look at all of the winners in every WC, they've been well organised, tight at the back, plodding through the tournament and playing containment with a superstar who elevates them to make that difference in clutch moments. France, 2018 – containment football with giroud up front, Germany 2014, Spain 2010 boring teams to death passing the ball 2 yards a time, 2006 Italy the epitome of tournament football, 2002 Brazil winning 2-0 2 holding midfield players (look in history this is the formation they've played every winning WC team), 98 France dragged by brilliance of Zidane in the big moments.

So people need to forget this utopia that you win international tournaments by playing super aggressive offensive football, no team in history has won that way. The only exception to this is maradona who single handedly dragged an ave team…but lol, it's maradona most teams will never have one of him.

So people need to check their expectations, and understand how tournament football works, and the pattern and history of winning teams.

Why is Sterling nailed on for a starting position for a front 3? He's been average at best for Chelsea.

    Starting players:-
GK: Pickford/Pope/Henderson hard to pick right now between them (probably Pickford for experience)

3 at the back: Stones/Tomori/White….or Walker (rcb)

2 wing backs: James rwb – Shaw lwb

    Dcm: Rice

    2 cm: Bellingham/Maddison

    3 forwards: Foden/Kane/Saka

Subs: 1 of the 3 gks mentioned/ Guehi/Coady/Chilwell/Trippier/Philips/Mount/Sancho/Abrahams or Toney

Maguire, Dier, Sterling, Grealish, Rashford, Trent haven't been good enough

Everyone else in that list I haven't mention are worthy names to mention but don't make the cut in my opinion.

Even someone like Jack Harrison, or Harvey Barnes have been better than Grealish

With all the names mention for potential starters + subs that makes 23

Gallagher isn't quite there yet to make the 23 man squad but if he was included I wouldn't be displeased

  19. @radarjammer691

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

    tomori and Toney needed

  21. @mightymo6167

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Bit pointless this ‘debate’. We all know Southgate will take the most negative squad, negative formation and negative playing style. Prob include 6 rbs again

  22. @trill_mainah

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

They snuck in elliot like we wouldn't notice😂what has elliot done to even be there?

  23. @josharcher2718

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

The fact they are arguing between saka and foden with out even considering dropping sterling just amazes me

  24. @starrage7926

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Gareth Southgate is over rated. Achieved nothing as club manager, and got easy draws in his two tournaments – as soon as they play a decent team, he is clueless – the subs in the final?!. It's not rubbish to criticise him. The justification that England since 1996 just haven't turned up so he's amazing is ridiculous. He got easy draws and then faces a decent team and loses – Graham Taylor part two.

  25. @Derrimam3roufch

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

it's too late because you can't work a new system over a night but,
    4-2-3-1
Trippier-Stones-Tomori-Shaw (No reece and potentially Kyle walker, and obviously he s not gonna start trent)
    Bellingham Rice
    Saka Foden Grealish
    Kane
You could press higher, get Foden in a central position or move him wide and add Mount in midfield and still got a solid bench that can turn around games, wit players than can become starters over form.
That back 3 idea just stuck there because with a very different squad in 2018, it worked.

  26. @leobeardmore-gray1230

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

spot on about Foden from Gary

  27. @akhil8186

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Why’s it wrong if Foden doesn’t start considering he has never delivered for NT?

  28. @oeckstei

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Stone, tomori, Ben white, trippier, Reece James would be nice too.

  29. @Raynbowwwww

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Southgate has done absolutely nothing in tournaments 🤣🤣🤣

  30. @briantadjalli6754

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

I think we should play 343 with ramsdale , Walker, stones, tomori as the cbs and gk, Reece and chilwell fullbacks, Bellingham and Trent cms, sterling kane and mount as attackers. I know this is a bit absurd but I feel like it would work and it would be a fun team with Trent in cm and Walker in cb, that looks amazing

  31. @JoshuaJones-xk3nn

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Jamie and Gary understand the importance of talking positively about England before a major tournament. The English press provide so much negativity around the English national team before major tournaments that it must take a tole mentally on the players and manager. Judgement should come after a major tournament, not before. So get behind your national team, support them, trust them to make the right decisions.

  32. @James-pv1fl

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Back up goal keeper and squad players for emergency are ramsdale, guehi or Tyrone Mitchell, and Callum Wilson as always poaches a goal or even demerai gray as always plays forward

  33. @James-pv1fl

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

All al mixed comments, Wingbacks work for England and got us to a final so why fix a method that works? Pickford in goal, has a mistake in him but commands the box and always delivers when needed especially for Everton , Trent or James depending on injuries and winger their facing , narrow team play Trent as offers so much attacking , and against your Brazil’s and Argentina’s who play wide, play James for defensive depth, centre backs have to be stones, Walker for pace to clear up and maguire , I know club form he’s been woeful, see how he is after first game because when he’s confident and has fans backing him he genuinely is a top defender (I know he’s been awful at united this season) and either tomori or Ben white as both can look like a mistake can come from them due to them taking risk at back, they play out from back and offer pace and good passing to clean up , chilwell even 3/4 fit has to start , so good bombing forward and defending genuinely think would be at Ashley Cole level if wasn’t for injuries, rice and Bellingham are guaranteed in my opinion both together can drop deep or press and start attacks with one or other sitting and always like to play forward (if either of them blowing can replace for Phillips or Henderson in worst case) front free has to be kane, when team is molded to him it works, can drop deep and play the ball and the only world class top 5 player (as westham fan) we have, wide players based on form for club either grealish or sterling on the left, both attack direct and draw fouls and make you sit up from your seat, wide ride can either be saka who has looked sharp for club and country this season especially after tough euros or sancho/rashford as both look like they have found their feet this season (stats may not support it but both look confident and can create magic) going forward have so many options like foden who is generational talent but never looks like the city player who always delivers, id personally take for subs Maddison , foden, mount, eze or elise, Toney /Abraham and Dan burn or Eric dier or Adam Webster , and in 23 man squad take lampety as always looks good for Brighton and Bowen

  38. @michaeljohn2822

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

Marc guehi is calm and excellent to deliver balls for attacking, have seen it done by him many times for zaha and benteke

sorry are we forgetting about tomori?!

  40. @mike9169

    March 11, 2024 at 1:08 pm

    CM : Rice & Bellingham
    RW : Saka
    CAM : Foden
    LW : Grealish
    ST : Kane

Foden & Grealish have to play, they are starting right now as well as in form for the best football team in the world and I’m a United Fan. Sterling most definitely should not play.
