Can we feed the world with a warmer planet? | Climate Now debate highlights
Global agricultural production is already being affected by climate change. From plant growth to crop yields, our food security is being challenged on multiple fronts, with droughts, higher temperatures and flooding all taking their toll.
As weather patterns become more variable across the globe, what can be done to make our food crops more resilient to a warming world?
In this Climate Now debate, our expert panel discussed the impact of heatwaves, droughts and floods on food production across Europe.
Meet our panelists:
Dr Carlo Buontempo, Director, Copernicus Climate Change Service
Carolina Wackerhagen, Project Coordinator, Lake Constance Foundation
Wijnand Sukkel, Senior Researcher in Agroecology, Wageningen University
Christian Huyghe, Scientific Director of Agriculture, INRAE

Economist Jacques Attali Interviewed by euronews
The economic crisis which has engulfed Greece could be the tip of the iceberg according to French economist, writer and thinker Jacques Attali.
The former chief of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has long advocated a single tax and fiscal policy within the Eurozone, and warns failure to do so could be catastrophic.
In his latest book, he asks whether “we will all be ruined in 10 years?”
With regards to Greece, Attali argues the European Union should have intervened several months ago.

If Australia gets hotter you may find the world has less grain. Cattle and sheep die in the heat. You have six of one and half a dozen of the other. Monoculture has always been a bad idea.

Suggestions.
1. Start using soda fountains where you get your personal reusable bottle filled, then ban sodas, juices, and water in plastic bottles. This technology alone would save possibly billions of tons in waste and is already used all over.
2. Go back to using wax paper for wrapping sandwiches as this will eventually go back to nature. Ban plastic sandwich bags.
3. Grocery stores should only be allowed to offer paper, or back to nature plastic bags for customers that forget their own.
4. Solar, wind, and water based electrical power generation should all be developed before any other less Eco friendly sources would be allowed.
5. Now buildings can be built at any level without using wood, we should convert all housing and other construction to these products, and stop cutting down trees.
6. Food can be grown in aquaponics and hydroponics settings in large high rise style buildings where climate control and ideal conditions can be created. The yearly yield would be much greater per acre because you could grow on multiple floors and year round. This is the only way I know of to create more growing space.
7. Everyone buy what you can afford. An electric bike, car, truck, scooter etc. We must stop pollution with gas and diesel now. The earths climate is already destabilizing and every time we start a car we add to the problem. It is one of the biggest changes we must make. For those that can not afford an electric car propane is much less polluting as a fuel than gasoline.
8. Ships at sea must use as much sails and wind turbines as is possible to reduce the consumption of diesel. Although it is unlikely that a huge vessel will ever run entirely on renewable energy we should reduce there carbon foot prints as much as possible.
9. Rail tracks need to made fully electric world wide, removing all pollution from fossel fuels.
10. This is the most important. WE MUST immediately set a population cap on earth and start imposing a one child law on all areas over that amount of density. In short the biggest threat to our existence is the massive consumption of resources to support us all. We need a one child law world wide, that is automatic once this density is reached. It must be enforced.
11. Vote Green only no matter what is said by other parties. All those that govern in the west have had a lot of time to make changes but would rather make promises to get elected while doing as close to nothing as possible when fulfilling them. Green is the only party that will have the guts to make the changes, and we must have the guts to get them elected. Remember this on voting day. It is most important.

for one thing, you don't adhere to old practices that no longer work, ie, crop rotation. we used to plant a field with one thing only, now we rotate crops to enrich the soil. Evolve or Die, that includes food production and distribution. Stop sitting there and wringing your hands over the problem, GET UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT

You won't feed the world with a colder planet that's for sure.
Good news. Since 1890, deaths from weather and climate related events have reduced by 95%.
Wildfires have reduced by 90% since 1900. Since 1980, the planet has warmed by 0.02c.
co2 levels are low compared to a few thousand years ago. It levels drop to 150ppm, all life on earth will cease.
The rubbish that this video spouts is all fake and lies. It's ill informed scaremongering.
The North pole is recording the lowest temperatures ever seen this year. The greenland ice sheet has expanded by trillions of tons of ice ovwr the last 5 years.
