Austria’s ‘Wurst’ musical export serenades Brussels
Austria, once the home of Mozart and Falco, has barely registered on the world’s musical map in recent years.
That was until bearded drag queen Conchita Wurst won this year’s Eurovision.
“Conchita Wurst is just a piece of cake of my life,” explained the Austrian vocalist.
“This character is very important for me, it’s not a concept. I didn’t plan it, life did it.”
MEPs invited 25-year old Wurst, known as Thomas Neuwirth to her parents, to promote diversity and LGBT rights.
