Meet the Romanian carpenter who turned heads at the White House
You know you are entering the Maramureș region of Romania when you start seeing the huge wooden gates on the side of the street. @evazubeck meets one of the last remaining traditional Maramureș wood carpenters and also his son who is trying to keep the tradition alive.

Whoa! Love those carvings on the gates as well as the sculptures, so traditional, bespoke & beautiful, it's a delight for any aspiring interior designers. Also, you can give us a tour of your little room up in the attic, it looked lovely with that green chest of drawers in the background. Ps. Your expression at 2:20 is hilarious. 😛 PPS. Your jacket from the right elbow side needs a patch up 😛

My paternal heritage is Székely from Transylvania in Romania and I have always dreamed I could afford a beautiful wooden gate entry like you’ve shown. (The big gate portion is for horses and wagons but there is a smaller gateway/doorway for people to pass through. Mr Barsan’s craftsmanship is beyond words. I’m glad his son Teo is keeping the woodcarving tradition alive. Thank you, Eva, for this episode!!

in the year of the lantern, there are some nellys. some doubting thomases and some biased resentments. but the year of the lantern shines on. the year of the lantern enlightens the interests and illuminates the information in ways that make the year of the rat jealous. but, can the year of the rat be ignited even if it 'escaped' ? you bet it can.
