   These lads need to think about the bigger picture. If you gave Pep the England job, you lads know full well he'd have you playing possession football, fast and technical. He'd literally force the side to play his way, come hell or high water. Gareth is happy to do what most managers do, but this is not good enough with the players England have. Put simply, other countries have better players and better styles of play. At international tournaments, the best team almost always wins.

   Southgate has benefited massively from easy runs, and a phenomenal squad. I think his work galvanising the squad and bringing the country together for Russia is underrated, but we need someone more proactive to take our football to something enjoyable to watch, and something that will actually win something

    'I said to my dad at HT if only we have a clean sheet here we'll win'. That is an incredibly naïve approach to any match. We sat back and invited pressure against a decent Italy team, they are unquestionably going to create chances with 90 minutes still on the clock. We needed to be more assertive, control the ball and the tempo, and methodically push for a second goal. Instead, we conceded possession and let them move us around however they wanted. Of the two teams, we had the stronger squad, so we should assert ourselves in the match and show our quality. Instead we cowered back, p*ssed the bed, and crossed our fingers in the hope that Italy would just let it stay 1-0. It was a shocking performance from a tactical POV. Subs needed to be made to help us control the game—WITH the ball.

    Stop moaning about not beating USA. The US played really well and some people seem to think we have a god given right to beat any team that were better than on paper. Also, how nervy would it have been playing Wales if we needed a result? Making sure we didn't lose to USA was the correct decision. We didn't need to win it. I'm not saying we'll win the whole thing but you have to still be in it to win it so we still have a chance. Tricky games to come though so just support them.

    Unfortunately, international football brings lots of casual fans together – there are lots of people who engage with England who don’t actively engage with club football. There is a level of complacency (and a lack of football knowledge) involved with international football, which is more apparent than with club football – that’s only heightened by the immediacy of tournament football. Southgate has been outstanding; we won our group without losing and scored 9 goals – if we were talking about other nations who had done that, we would be nervous about playing them. France were average against Australia and were open in the first half, they scraped past Denmark who have gone out, and they were awful against Tunisia with a changed squad – 7 points, 7 goals. Our fans are terrified of playing them, and their group was no harder than ours in reality. We have a good manager who understands international football, we have a good squad who are together, our fans and our complacency are part of our lack of success over many years.

    Remember guys its tournament football so we have to play pragmatic woeful football until a half decent team beats us. What manager could possibly get dynamic attractive football with only Foden/Grealish/Saka/Kane/Sterling/Rashford/Maddison to choose from. Its not like Brazil or France are doing it, and doing it rather well, with Richardson and Giroud up front.

    It feels like Southgate Guarentees us or as close you can get to guarantees that we beat teams we “should” beat. But if we don’t play expansive football throughout. We aren’t going to be able to flick a switch and turn it on when we need it against the better opposition. I think that’s where the fans are concerned. When your playing at that top top level you need to develop patterns of play by consistently attacking the game. I’m overall happy with Southgate. I think fans are just scared of wasting an opportunity with the quality we have

    It’s fine when we play defensively and pragmatically when the opposition is better than us. What most of us object to is playing that way against teams that we are, player for player, miles better than.

    The reason for the frustration doesn't come from the results per se, it comes from the lack of desire to go and end a game when we have the talent to do so. Italy was that game that showed that negative side that we almost inevitably expect.

    Even a blind man with no legs would have been able to get a hat rick against such opposition,if you can call them that. Wales made England look much better than they truly are as we always do, we're nice like that. Against half decent opposition like America, they struggled . Viva Senegal as they say in Cwmbran!! And Cymru am byth!!!

    Southgate is too negative when playing against decent opposition, personally I don't have an issue with being cautious against a team that is better than us like say France, but as soon as there is a hint of danger Southgate seems to instruct the whole team to play more defensively but also sit off players and not exert any pressure, also so far in the big games he does not make substitutions when they are needed. People keep saying he got us to a semi and a final, but they don't seem to take into account it was his poor tactics/decision making that cost us both of those games

    That golden generation were beaten by better teams. We've lost to weaker teams under Southgate that's the difference. Italy were absolutely there for the taking and he should never be forgiven for losing us that game.

    Better manager could have had us 2 or 3 goals up at half time in the final and against both Italy and Croatia everybody watching cause see changes needed to be made cause a goal was coming except Southgate 🤦🏻‍♂️

    The issue with Southgate is he decided his best 11 in 2020, and will stick with them no matter how bad players play. The likes of Mount can have 6 bad games and still not be dropped, and only makes positive subs when games are already wrapped up. He never makes a positive sub when games are tight and decisions need to be made, and doesn't rotate players based on form. So much talent in the squad is wasted on Southgate

    Comparing him to Mourinho (even if it’s just about style of play) is outrageous. Jose has proven that he can win things with his style, Southgate hasn’t won anything yet.

    There are obvious flaws in Southgate that are worthy of criticism, but there's been a lot of revisionism with his tenure. People seem to think that we lost the Croatia game because of him, ignoring the fact they were a better side than us and proved it. There's also this idea that we should've won the Euros easily, and that not doing so was a total failure, which is painfully idiotic considering most predictions before the tournament had us being knocked out in the Round of 16 to Germany or Portugal.

    When Gareth came in, England were an international joke. Now we're contenders. Simple as.
