The electronic cigarette has revolutionised smoking habits in Europe and around the world, with more and more tobacco users turning to it for what they believe is a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes.

But how safe are these simple devices and how effective are they at helping smokers kick the habit?

So far there has been too little research done to arrive at any firm conclusions. In the meantime the European Parliament is gearing up to legislate on the e-cigarette amid concerns that it could be a health risk.

Its supporters claim there is no justification for a ban or restrictions that would deprive smokers of access to a vital aid in their battle to quit.

ACETATE IN THE LUNGS, SPANDEX FABRIC, DOES THE HAND HELD DEVICE CONTAIN ACETATE? Is acetate a plastic. heated plastic. DO THE FABRICS, SPANDEX AND ACETATE POSE HEALTH PROBLEMS, EITHER INTERNAL OR TOPICAL?

I was hesitant, skeptical if you will about starting to vape. I started off as a cigarette smoker for 8 years, then I became a dipper with grizzly and skoal for the last 7 years. Needless to say I knew it was time to quit, did chantax, the patch, couldnt do the gum it made me puke, couldnt go cold turkey. Finally caved in and bought my first vape the Exceed dx 19. Got some of those liquids with a little nicotine to help the transition and I havent touched a can of grizzly since. on my second week now. So from someone who couldnt kick tobacco on every other avenue and finally was able too with this? Yeah. Sooooo much better. :]

Three weeks ciggarette free after picking up my vape device. Can't remember what it feels like to smoke a real ciggarette. Feel like a different person. Vaping works!

I don't understand how its possibly a gateway? Why would someone switch to smoking? First if they vape they will have their fill of nicotine, so trying a cigarette will barely do anything…from a vaper+smoker the cigarettes have about 5% of their previous potency now i vape (i'm tapering)…its literally a decision of 'do i want to stink and pay £10 a pack when i could pay £1…..has anyone ever actually moved from starting on vaping to cigarettes, ever?

  7. @jorgepeterbarton

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

its all ok when they've banned it….at least there'll be brown packaging with snuff pictures all over it so of course we'll all quit and no one will ever start. I definitely only smoked because of the tacky coloured packaging, that was the whole reason.

  8. @williampunton916

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

they need to stop looking at them as a gateway to starting smoking! most are using it as a change from smoking some even as a dieting aid don't know how but they claim it works. I have tried year after year to stop the stinks but failed until late I got my vape it's 98% healthier than cigs and my e juice isn't 30% spillages or reclaim from the floor like a traditional combustible cig 2,000,000+ people wouldn't have changed over to e cigs if they where that dangerous and just to add the exploding batteries are due to idiots not doing the research properly and over drawing power from the battery or simply not caring for them properly you wouldn't put a AA BATTERY in your pocket unprotected why do they think high drain lithium batteries will be OK? yet again I think it's a tax thing…..

  9. @BenniboiBadman

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

i cannot understand the desire for people to try to spread misinformation about vaping but I believe it is from ignorance and a pretty good PR job from governments, big pharma and big tobacco, who all stand to lose a lot of money as more and more people make the switch from regular tobacco.
I think that people forget there is not much real altruism in this world. everyone has an angle, and unfortunately the revenue from taxing tobacco is one of the easiest ways for the government to keep their hands in your pocket. Where are they going to get this money from if all of their smokers stop spending their money on tobacco? They know they can't turn round and tell people they are raising taxes by 10% because everyone has stopped smoking because there would be chaos on the streets. So what do they do? lobby to monopolize the new market so they can start to wrestle control from the independents and tax it subversively. the real kicker is that it makes you realize that the government are not really concerned with peoples health. it's all about the money. and that's whats really fucked up. makes me want to go and put on a tin foil hat………

Ecig is here to stay, I have no doubt in that. If they can perfect it and make it simpler for the average user it will explode exponentially. The battery has to last much longer to make it more convenience.

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

you know, I really don't think vaping is a gateway to anything else.
I think that if you start vaping you wont want to start smoking, seems counter intuitive.

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

I was a 13 year smoker about a pack a day and havn't touched a cig since the moment I got my first vaper (note that the cig shaped ones are crap and most of them are sold by tobacco companys)

I am still young, started smoking cigarettes at 16 (soon it became pack/day) at 21 I got my 1st vaporizer and never went back to tobacco. On the ocassion I take few puffs of tobacco I loved before I stopped but that's once in few months when a friend has it… Now I'm clean for around a year and a half… Ecigs kind of became my hobby (DIY juice, making my own coils and collecting atomizers)

  17. @TimothyRyanFisher

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

5 months free of a 28 year habit, and thanking God and vaping. It took more than a corner store ecig, I build coils, and have better devices than when I started because You Tube has lot's of great people informing the public on how to vape, get off cigarets. For all of the detractors and haters, that basic premiss is often lost in the derision.

e cigarettes are frowned upon by the government because the government can't make huge profits off of people buying the cigarettes and then paying tonnes of money on medical treatment from the cigarettes. it's about money, not health. if the government gave two shits about our health, they'd have banned cigarettes decades ago.

  37. @morbis_

I find that these doc's somehow minimize the effort involved in switching from smoking to vaping. You still go through withdrawals, you still are kicking a whole plethora of chemicals your body is dependent on. These products are improving the users cardiovascular health when compared to cigarettes. Quitting cigarettes is difficult, but these products preserve the habit portion of the addiction.

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

It is Not a CIGARETTE! Get Rid of That word! When using one of these, you are Vaping-Not Smoking. It is a Personal Vaporizer. Lose the that word Cigarette All together and things Could Really change as far as Laws and so on. I know people that use these with NO nicotine in the liquid. Yet they are Still considered a Tobacco product?! Or a Nicotine Delivery System. This is Crazy! The Government sees a product that has the word Cigarette in it and of course they will Attack It and Think they can legislate it far and wide. Don't let Them! This Helps Thousands of people QUIT Smoking each year and the Government wants to make them Illegal?! Government, on this issue needs a a Swift Kick in the…

I have just started vaping (5days ago). (Ecigs) I have been smoking for 19 years pack – pack n 1/2 day and I am smoking 24 after I finish this bottle 18 … 11.. 6.. then nicotine free… now if I smoke cigs it makes me a little nauseated. . N I can't stand the smell any more. Thank god for whom ever invited these..

  43. @bigoxtailbone2

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

in the end its about money. the governments want to know how to tax this product.

  44. @MultiGuitarman53

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

I smoked cigarettes for 40 years. started vapeing one week ago. now I can not take the smell of a cigarette, horrible. the taste of vape is a thousand times better and feel a reduced health risk. I will also say food taste so much better now as well. I will continue to vape and I will reduce the nicotine content each month until I am zero

  45. @skullfudge

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

Smoked at least 30 a day for 25 years and I enjoyed a cigarette. Introduced to vaping 5 weeks ago and it worked from day one. The vast choice of flavours and mods make it an enjoyable way to quit smoking. Do it ! …. it works.

  46. @weused2bestoned

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

    quitting mean stopping, not swapping..
you're just maintaining the nicoteen levels in your bodies which really isn't going to help you quit. You're addicted to nicoteen, if you keep addind it you'll keep having cravings.. and keep buying ecigs. You realize the best way to stop something is to simply stop it. It's like being addicted to hookers but having a wank instead cause it's cheaper and less likely to make you ill… but you'll get a bad wrist. haha

  47. @TheSuperpieman21

    March 22, 2024 at 7:35 am

i never smoked cigarettes im 17 and vape  every day and I never think of switching to cigs.    I actually think e cigarettes make kids less likely to smoke tobacco, its a much cheaper habit, tastes amazing and doesnt make u smell nasty
