Thierry Breton speaks of the duty of countering disinformation in his Tweet: is he referring to current disinformation as found in the present Twitter policy or future disinformation?

When you move to block US made and operated Twitter, but don't move against Chinese made and controlled TikTok – I think that speaks to where your beliefs lie.

Twitter is a privately-owned US-based company, the EU can decide to allow/ban the platform within its jurisdiction. However, it cannot dictate how a privately-owned company is operated, that is left to the decision-makers of said company.

What EU is scared by? Free speach! That says a lot about EU leading politics! ….

  9. @upstreamer1661

    March 23, 2024 at 4:06 am

Free speach is the corner stone of democracy. What's wrong with you "democratic" institutions? You blame Putin while you are doing the same thing. And you hide behind the Big Tech,….you hypocrites!

EU Breton doesn’t get that the EU isn’t the entire world.
Who’s rules and under what country’s conditions?
Sounds like a dictatorship Breton is suggesting.
We got here because people are abusing their powers to influence human thought and controlling what adult people can read and debate in social media.
EU has done nothing about cancel culture which is today’s 1984 McCarthyism. 🇺🇸

The EU demands Twitter allow "freedom of speech," so why did they allow the opposite–censorship–before now? Define "hate speech." Is this merely hate against leftist/socialist ideology?

    Ban the EU

  18. @lemwezzer63

    March 23, 2024 at 4:06 am

Elon Musk hasn't even made any changes
And the European Union is already finding a reason to get upset. Maybe the idea of an open and free discussion makes someone comfortable. The European Union has the right to say how companies operate in their jurisdiction. But let's be honest European Union is not known for its open and free discussions they have shut down many speakers who they didn't agree with. They always have the option of banning Twitter.

  23. @Caleb-qr6lo

    March 23, 2024 at 4:06 am

Lol all he has to do is put "this tweet was was banned by your government" or "your government's speech law prevents you from seeing this information" basically put the blame on the governments in clear text. And people will use means to get around it just like YouTube or change their government.

    March 23, 2024 at 4:06 am

If i were musk Id block the EU from using twitter. Keep it USA only. He can, it will private. Anyone from the EU using the service would be breaking TOS and Musk would not be held liable.

EU has capitulated to the Jews on free speech,

  26. @fifty9forty3

    March 23, 2024 at 4:06 am

Musk said free speech within the law, and the law is most commonsense.

Elon doesn't seem to realise that he will now be held personally responsible for every decision of Twitter regarding censorship – where does he draw the line? wherever he does, people that step over that line will be angry at him.

He may discover that the Right that are currently championing his takeover will feel betrayed the moment Twitter sticks a fact check or deletes a tweet that is a absurd conspiracy theory, dangerous misinformation and/or libelous.

It'll be amusing when Qanon include him in their "evil Cabal" conspiracies because Twitter put a fact check on Climate Change being a Chinese hoax or Fauci being a lizard person.

The Libertarians will turn on him.

The EU is a good regulator and sets industry-wide and global standards for tech companies. In the U.S. both parties talk about "regulating big tech", but seem to get nothing done.
The European Commission and the European institutions are solid, trustworthy and efficient at regulating Tech companies and setting industry-wide and global standards, which is good. The EU isn't bribed by companies unlike America with its Koch Brothers

    March 23, 2024 at 4:06 am

There's zero effective change here. It's basically just a warning for Musk that he has to respect laws of all the countries where Twitter operates, not just the USA, something that he's clearly not aware of, judging from his twitts. I guess this year will be a wild ride for Musk as he becomes aware that his dumb view of what constitutes a "free speech" is far more nuanced in a reality, and stuff like even real accounts promoting counterfeit goods is still something that should be banned, along with a tons of other things he has no slightest clue about.

Lololol, these rules will be contested in court soon enough. The rules were written into law by 🙈🙉🙊, I mean politicians.

Musk is talking about Political Freedom not criminality. As far as the Q-anons go, we'll have to wait and see, because that's somewhere in between.

the eu doesnt hate russia because of censorship, they hate russia because they are anti globulist. afterall the eu censors everyone thats anti eu or right wing. watch what happens if you openly criticize islam or mass immigration in europe. your life will be destroyed. or you will be demonized by the media until a lunatic kills you.

  38. @Tessican
