Meta in the term means “beyond” and verse refers to the “universe.” Moreover, some people also use the term metaverse to refer to virtual worlds in which players can roam around and interact with other players; for instance, a world where developers can build buildings, parks, signs and things that do not exist in reality

The Metaverse is based on 3D, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality , Neuron to Machine chips and Neuron to Neuron chips and software , all this was developed on Open Source and Open Standards, but the incompetent and corrupt Elected Officials and Bureaucrats in Brussels and Washington DC have let many parts of it slip into private monopolies , when everything was financed by the EU & US Taxpayers in the 80's and 90's , starting with CERN and DARPA, the Universities and Military Contracts.
Same as browsers, bulletin boards and forums: All were open source and open standards , then the Politicians close them down to let Facebook and others build huge monopolies, shame !
